I'm trying to understand what happened...whether it was food, medicine, physiotherapy, acupuncture, peace, prayer, exercise. I'm looking for explanations.
I had COVID in March 2021. I got vaccinated in May 2021. I took an area trip in June 2021 and I got tinnitus in July 2021.

Hello Overloq and welcome to this forum. Tinnitus is a funny thing - well no, it’s not funny - in that we all experience it in different ways. And the problem with it is that, if we think about it and try to analyse it, it feeds upon your attention and becomes more noticeable.
My opinion - other forumites might disagree - is that trying to analyse why you have it is not going to get you very far. And might make things worse.
If you have not done so already I’d suggest you read the British tinnitus Association website for help in dealing with this horrible condition.
Hi Overloq. I'm sorry you got covid this year and hope you're feeling better. I agree with Rosie. It's best not to think too much about T - if possible. There's often no rhyme or reason to it. All the things you've done are very good ways to approach / manage T. Keep up the good work. Enjoy the moments of peace & quiet. Lovely dog!
Hi agree with the comments already posted. If you try to fathom out the whys, it will not work out in your favour, T is unpredictable in many aspects and as the guys have already said, trying to understand why it did what it did will only keep you in the loop.
I have found that just allowing it to do what it does and not try to control T in any way, make it less important and carry on living your life, your brain will take care of the rest.
Enjoy life and do the things that matter and that make you smile. You will learn to live with Tinnitus and it will be just another part of you, nothing more, not important, just another background noise.
Thank you, Pat. Happyrosie, Doglover, Matt489 and friends,I'm grateful for the tips. I know the T is a big challenge, but I also believe in the human capacity to overcome challenges. My dog's name is Funny. She is very special, I think we make a good partnership. A big hug.
Hi, I agree with others that you will never figure out the how or why. However, like you I got the T after having Covid. I am 100% convinced that the Covid caused the onset of T. However, for whatever reason I have it now and I am making the best of it. I do not have plans to get the vaccination because of fear that it will make it worse. I have seen comments that support both sides but I don't want to take any chances. My thoughts are that I can live with the version of T that I have now. It definitely is a challenge but I can handle it. But if it were to spike permanently because of a vaccination or any other reason it would honestly be very tough to deal with. So, I am going to take my chances and be very careful and social distance as much as possible and hold off on the vaccination.
I certainly don't blame anybody else for choosing to take it though. It is a personal decision.
That's the best way to approach T. Accept you have it & make peace with it. (I'm still in the process). I think some people are simply more prone to T than others. Like anything really. Some people have better hearts, lungs, livers etc. I 'm with you on the vaccine although I know we're in the minority. Like you - it's just not something I can do at the moment.
Acceptance is in my opinion one of the biggest things you can do regarding tinnitus, it takes away the fear, anxiety, uncertainty of the condition. We all know that T does what it wants when it wants pretty much, it's how we react to it when it does, that's the bit that really matters.
I get the your reasoning behind not wanting the Vaccine, it does though in some aspect allow T to have an important roll in your life and in some way control your actions, of avoidance and slight trepidation at the prospect of what may happen, I do totally understand where you are coming from as this is something I have gone through many times over the years of living with T. I am in no way judging you guys, please don't think I am.
In CBT you learn about trying to predict the future, no one can do this, not even mystic meg🤣, our brains are all set up to work on the negative side and predicting the future makes our brains work on worst case scenario, which in most cases, never comes to fruition.
As longs as you are at peace with your choices and they have not hold over your actions, then you are definitely on a winner.
We all have the capacity to deal with and live T and all of you in my opinion are all over it.
Very helpful post Matt. Thank you for not judging me . I got as far as the door to the vaccination centre in July but just couldn't go in. I'm much better but I know T still influences my thoughts & feelings to some extent. It's the thought of those dark days . The answer is CBT - as you say. I've done one short course so far and hope to start a second one soon.
I will never judge anyone in our position, I found myself avoiding a situation yesterday, as had a T spike, first time for a while, really had to talk to myself about it and move forward. It's not always easy but does get easier with time and practice.
The dark days unfortunately will always hang around for a while In your mind but you will also get to a stage where you remember them for what they were, days in your distant past, where you were at the bottom but looking up, beginning your T journey and living with it. You may have noticed I don't use the term 'suffering with tinnitus' as I feel it's a negative description and only reinforces the associated emotions, living with tinnitus' is far more apt as that is what we do.
Do what is right for you, regardless of what other people think, be sure in your choice and be happy with it.🙂
Thanks Matt. It's so helpful being able to talk to people further on in their T journey. I like the distinction you make between suffering with T and living with T. It's a really good idea to reframe it in this way 🙂
That's spot on. Get on with your life. It's there, nothing can be done, but distract yourself in bad times. Enjoy the world out there, that's more important.
