Hearing Aids

Hi everyone, having bad tinnitus for over 20 years now I will be receiving my new hearing aids next week. Four weeks ago I visited my audiologist at the hospital and she explained that my hearing was damaged (I used to Dj professionally for 4 years) and the higher frequency was the noise I was no longer hearing, therefore, my tinnitus was compensating for this!! . My fingers are crossed that these hearing aids method will work as they will be personally configured to my hearing. I also quit cigarettes 10 years ago and now vape and have to admit this also makes my tinnitus worse.. it's the nicotine in it. I have been weening myself of this down to 2mg nicotine as I was once on 24mg. So hopefully totally stop vaping and the new hearing aids will be my cure or even calm the hissing I get in the middle of my head.

I will keep you posted.

Hi Frankie. I have the same problem. Hearing loss at higher frequencies. High pitched tinnitus as a result. Hearing aids do help but don't be surprised if your tinnitus sounds a little louder at first when you take them out of an evening. This was my experience anyway. All the best. Good luck with giving up the vaping! It sounds like you're nearly there.

Good luck with the vaping - when you’ve finally given up you’ll feel suddenly FREE! No patting your pockets and worrying about leaving your vape behind! More money on your pocket! And as doglover says, learn to understand possible changes in the T.

Once you’ve got hearing aids you’ll probably find that T diminishes as you hear the real world better. And wonder how you managed without them!

Best of luck

Hi Frankie

I too have higher frequency hearing loss. I have had hearing problems with tinnitus for about 20 years but last December I had Labyrinthitis which resulted in most of the hearing in my right ear being lost. After a week of deafness I developed Musical Ear Syndrome "Musical Tinnitus" so have undefined musical noises 24/7. I have had my new hearing aids for about 6 weeks now - like a fool I expected instant improvement as soon as I put them in. Not the case for me, but I know we are all different. I am just beginning to feel the benefit and "my music" isn't as disruptive to my everyday life as it was, They definitely do help though so please be patient with them. Each day my ears feel different and I am praying that they are still trying to recalibrate. I find that I cannot recognise music that I loved as it all sounds flat with the base notes being prominent. Being a music lover I find that the most difficult part. Hope you get some relief.

Best wishes Terry

Hi Frankie, It took me quite a while to get used to wearing my hearing aids all the time, but they do help with coping with my Tinnitus, I now use them until I go to sleep, but my Tinnitus seems loud when I do take them out, luckily I normally fall asleep quite quickly.I have NHS hearing aids and Specsavers hearing aids, both help with my Tinnitus the only difference NHS are free with batteries also free.

Good luck when you receive your aids, mine really help me greatly, I also sleep with them in as my T prevents me from sleeping ( permission given from my audiologist),, just to mention last week when I was seen I was informed that in the next month or so I will be given “ new” aids which are much better than the ones I have?? Will be able to configure to my phone similarly to “private” ones, don’t know if this is countrywide, I am in Cheshire, but if they are better than the ones I have , it will be my birthday, xmas and a lotto win all at once!!!, hope things really improve for you, fingers x.
