Hi elsie. Funnily enough I looked this up last night . CBT is dealing with present issues. Counselling is dealing with past issues. That's waht it says on the NHS website anyway. I've booked myself in for an initial session of CBT at the local health centre. Still waiting for the NHS to help me but starting to lose heart as it's been a long wait.
I’d just add - this is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, a psychological technique to help you control the difficulties you experience rather than being controlled by them. A lot of people on this forum when they first get T feel that it’s in control of their lives.
I wish there was a place for this in my part of the world. But, I have had grand mal epilepsy since I was 14 about 47 years ago. It basically controlled my for quite sometime until seizures were controlled with the correct meds. Then I also discovered and kept a journal of when and what triggered the initial start of the beginning of the sensation at the base of my skull. When I began to feel it I immediately took myself out of the situation that triggered the seizures. I can sometimes with the extreme ringing think about the high pitch sound and try to mentally bring the tone down. Sometimes it works and gives relief. I am thinking that the cognitive training therapy has a lot of similarities in trying to train you to think of ways to disassociate the sound of the ringing by through meditation and
