I started to receive buzzing sound in my right ear. I had some irritation in ear so used otomize ear drops on thu night And had this sound in morning. Thought it will go away in morning but it didn’t . Called GP and they prescribed (without examining because of Covid-19) antibiotics amoxicillin for 7 days and asked for wait for 3 weeks before calling again. I m not sure if antibiotics will work. And should I try putting some ear wax removal e.g olive oil or other wax removal drops? It’s putting so much pressure on my head and I m feeing stressed. I m surprised even in 20th century there is no cure for it. Is there a way to stop it?

Hi HChandel - welcome to the forums. I'm sure that the community will have some good advice on how to adjust to the tinnitus which you're experiencing at the moment.

As a general rule of thumb, if the symptoms you are experiencing and which you've discussed with your GP suggest an ear infection or irritation, this would seem to be the reason for them prescribing an antibiotic. The three week timeline is also in line with that treatment to complete fully.

We would only recommend using olive oil if you have an existing case of ear wax build-up.

A headache is one of the side effects frequently reported with amoxicillin use - could this be an explanation for the pressure in your head which you've noticed.

One of the reasons that there isn't a cure yet for tinnitus is that it's largely regarded as a symptom of an underlying condition, rather than an illness in its right - by treating the underlying issue, your awareness of your tinnitus might very well change, improve or fade so much that you just don't notice it anymore.

We would always recommend talking to a medical professional if you're at all concerned about medications which you've been prescribed.

With best wishes

Hi. I had the same experience in the Summer of 2019 after using otomise (it has an ototoxic ingredient - the antibiotic compound!). I stopped using the spray after three days during which my tinnitus (to which I had habituated) increased in volume and became really noticeable. I told the GP - who said otomise couldn't have caused it, but the GP gave me an oral antibiotic instead which she claimed would meet my needs. She also sent me to ENT - and after a twelve week wait the specialist likewise said the otomise wasn't the cause as it only affects patients with perforated ear drums - and that had not been diagnosed by my GP on the first visit to the surgery. After six months I habituated again - but I will not use otomise again. I find Earol olive oil spray the best - it's more expensive but certainly high quality and very easy to use in a measured dose spray.
