I dont have that exactly but my tinnitus is related to jaw joint issues so I am sure it is all very closely related

Mine changes when I turn my neck. It is somatic and yours should be looked at by a dentist and a physical therapist. If they locate the problem there is good chance you will successful in being tinnitus free.

Yes I get this and I also get a volume change if I open my mouth wide to bite a large roll or apple etc. Does your tinnitus change when you move your jaw from side to side? Mine does

You're the first person I have come across with very similar symptoms and triggers to myself. I found this happens to me quite a few years ago. Also, if it is not present and I overextend my jaw as you mentioned above, this will induce the sound. I find I get 4 levels of volume which increase the more I open my jaw.

In the last couple of years I found I don't have to actually open my jaw to get the sound. This is a bit wierd to explain but I can have my mouth totally closed and still induce the sound. With my mouth closed I use the muscles that normally open my mouth to try and open it but use other other muscles in mouth / jaw to stop my mouth actually opening. These muscles working against each other somehow causes the sound for me with the volume increasing as I increase the amount of force the muscles are using.

I also can induce the sound by applying downward pressure to the top of my head using my hands with volume increasing with pressure applied.

Tonight, also for the first time, I came across information on an American hearing specialist's site which stated problems with jaw joints can cause it. Haven't yet read whether there is successful treatment for it. Personally I am not concerned by the ringing as it comes and goes, I have learnt to live with it.

Unfortunately my T is there 24/7 and increases in volume by chewing and different sounds set it off like someone using a turning fork in both ears sometimes volume goes back down quickly or it lasts days before it goes down

Hi Ausringer

Iam very similar to you.

I can also induce it by pressing with my finger on my cheekbone (either side of face) at the outside edge just in front of my ear. I can also induce the sound by putting my hand on my forehead and pushing forward against hand. I do believe its joint related. My Dentist is adamant i grind my teeth at night and i do get health anxiety so am becoming more aware now of clenching my jaw tight with tension particularly when concentrating ie driving.

Sometimes the pulsing can change to a humming. I like you am learning to live with it and have got better to zone it out. The main thing for me was making sure it was nothing serious causing it.

Best Wishes

Owley

Interesting Owley. Tried pushing cheekbones but didn't get anything however pushing forehead with my hand definitely works and get different volumes depending how hard I push. Also get it by clenching my teeth. My wife is a dental technician with a lot of connections to dentists and orthodontists. Will get her to make some initial enquiries about getting it checked out.

Taken from the link above :

" Background

There is a close relationship between certain problems with the jaw joint (temporo-mandibular joint or TMJ) and tinnitus. Scientific studies have shown that people with TMJ problems are more likely to suffer from tinnitus. Similarly, some individuals who have sustained an injury to their neck may also suffer from tinnitus. Some people with either TMJ problems or neck problems are able to alter the intensity of their tinnitus by moving their mouth, jaw, face and neck. Successful treatment of the underlying problem can be associated with an improvement of tinnitus symptoms. "

When I told my doctor 20 years ago that symptoms appear when I overextended jaw opening she thought I was mad too, although she tried it for herself at least to see if it would happen to her.
