Cochlear Implants and Tinnitus
Hi ! I went bilateral at the end of August2018, prior to switch on I was fine and happy with my decision. As soon as I was switched on 2 weeks after surgery I started to feel some buzzing, first I thought it was the sound processor, T was in and out of my head at the beginning, now it’s permanent even without the sound processor, my surgeon has prescribed some tests and X-ray, I should know more about it on the 29/1 when I see my audiologist but I am afraid it’s there to stay. I heard 18% of implantdes get tinnitus after surgery....
What’s about you ? Did you talk to your surgeon or audiologist to get an explanation?
Hi , first of all , thank you for replying to me. I don’t know many people who have a Cochlear Implant and Tinnitus. Yes, I had T before the Cochlear. I went in for a grommet in my right ear, and came out with Tinnitus! I had the grommet in and out 3 times, a stapadectomy, a Cochlear Implant put in , but my ear was very painful so a year later it was removed. I’ve had this one for over a year now. It does mask the Tinnitus to a degree but I still hear the ringing, mainly from about 6 o clock at night when my energy is low. I wish I had left everything alone, but what’s done is done. I , like many sufferers struggle each day, especially because I couldn’t work any more. I’m a Teacher. This has been going on for 3 years. Fingers crossed something will happen soon. Thanks again, Jenny 😊
Hello 1Dar, i have T, im from Brazil, there isnt much information about Cochlear implants and tinnitus, did you put the cochlear implant because of tinnitus or something else ?
Hello, I put the Cochlear Implant because of Tinnitus. I had a lot of operations before hand though. I tried a hearing aid but it wasn’t that successful. Are you considering getting one? It has masked the T , but does not stop it completely .
I havent had any objective information about hearing aids, i have Tinnitus for 21 yrs, i dont know if it really works, some papers i read say they do, others say they dont, so its better to know from somebody who has this device, well it seems you tried many paths.
Hi , yes I have tried many paths and the more intervention I have had the worse my tinnitus has been , but I was so desperate to have some sort of break from the Tinnitus , so my ENT went down the path of a Cochlear. It definitely masks the Tinnitus, the operation was simple with not much pain, but it does not eliminate the T .
Are you considering getting one ? All the best. Jenny
Well, i don't have any intention now to put anything in practice right now, 'cause it's emotionally is bearable, it seems that emotions dont lead you to an objective solution, of course, maybe it can drive you to find what is best for you, but as you said, the treatments or device dont eliminate the tinnitus, for a while its better for me to keep things like they are.
