Although, after 20 years I have got used to certain aspects of my tinnitus, I was just wondering my fellow 'posters' how many different sounds/noises do you have in each ear?

I have bilateral tinnitus. The noise is experienced in both ears and in the middle of my head. It varies in intensity from mild to severe, although I only have one sound "hissing". Some people think the tinnitus noise is coming from the ears but it is actually coming from the brain.

I tend to agree, mine is confined to my left ear and is a constant hissing that seems to be deep rooted.

It seems to respond to noise and is quite intense at the moment as I've just returned from a football match.

I'm still only about 4 mths into mine and am struggling to come to terms with it.

Yeah I thought the same as you, coming from the brain.

Hi, mines a constant high pitched tone in my left ear which doesn't intrude much other than at night, plus chirping/squeaking mainly in my left ear a bit like a radio being tuned, but think it's more a head thing as it goes into my right ear too..... plus an evil reactive hissing that is always there, sometimes quiet and unobtrusive but sometimes spiky if I've had a drink or been in a noisy environment. Bizarrely it really bugged me in M&S today...rock and roll!! That's the joy of tinnitus, you never know what you're going to wake up to each day 😡

Mine is in both ears but more in the right. I have the usual high-pitched whistling and hissing but also get intermittent one off high pitched whistle in the left ear that suddenly kicks in very loud for a few seconds and then fades to nothing. I also have a bonging sound (like bells) in the middle of my head and usually get this at night when I lie down to sleep but also sometimes during the day.

I do manage it quite well and am able to cope with it.

In my right ear I can hear my circulation working - heartbeat, droning/humming and also hissing and in my left ear hissing and a very faint noise like a house alarm going off. But I don`t have them always at the same time. I was told that I get the circulation noises because I have hearing loss and the carotid artery runs very close to the hearing nerve.

At the beginning just over two years ago, I did not cope at all but now for most of the time I am ok. Love Lynne xx

I have four and they move from ear to ear and sometimes take up residency in the middle of my head for a few hours. I can live with the ear noises but the head noise kinda wrecks me. I sometimes experience a lower hum in my right ear that I actually find pleasant. It was ray guns yesterday, today I have an intermittent hissing in my right ear. P

Thanks to all of you for replying. I don't personally know anyone else who suffers so it is really interesting to hear about what you all are 'hearing'!

I have between 2 - 4 different sounds in my left ear and 1 - 2 in my right ranging from squeaks to bells. The most prominent & constant in both is the hum, a similar sound to a wet finger running around a wine glass, is this just a vibration?. I don't notice it much during the day now but I am a light sleeper so the numerous times I wake up during the night sometimes feels like an orchestra.

The most noticeable sound is when a sudden 'siren' noise can strike during the day, normally in my left ear. It is so loud everything around me seems to disappear, but fortunately it rarely last for more than a few minutes.

My Dad suffered throughout his life and in his later years would keep the radio on all night to lessen the impact of his tinnitus when he woke up. Could it be hereditary?
