can increasing frequency of periods be a symptom of any other condition apart from hypothyroidism. I would like to be prepared for my Gp.

My normal cycle has always been 36-38 days. However it is now 26 days and i have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism but previosly my Gp says that y thyroid blood results are all within normal range. i find going to my Gp very stressful !

Also what blood tests should my GP carry out for a full thryoid screen.?#

Any help wiith this would be greatfully appreciated.

Kind Regards,

GIMI-ENERGY.

Hi! I don't know how old you are, but my cycle contracted like this when I was in the peri-menopause. It went gradually from around 34 days to 26 days and then I stopped having periods. If your not anywhere near menopause then it could be attributed to hypo (hormonal imbalance), but that's just my thoughts!

I think a thyroid panel consists of,TSH; T4; free T4; free T3 and antibodies (thyroid peroxidase and another one, forgot the name of it). Not very helpful but wanted to response to your question. Someone with more knowledge will, I'm sure, be in touch shortly.

All the best to you gimi-energy!

Can also be a sign of hyperthyroidism. Normally with hyper they get less and less but sometimes the whole cycle speeds up.

Thanks for your info. will discuss with Gp when i get all my rivate thyroid blood test results back in 2 weeks time.

Yes can also be fibroids. My periods got closer and closer until i bled every day for a year and had to have blood transfusions. I had a giant fibroid and needed surgery.

There is a link between fibroids and hypoT but that's another story

It is also a sign of endometriosis, or any other gynae problem. Are you or have you been on any form of the pill, you can have alterations in your periods with that too.

Hope you get sorted soon

Thanks for your reply. Had 2 progesterone tablets as my Gp gave them to me for my PMS. Didnt take anymore as i just felt a bit nervous about taking hormones in case they put on weight. I have gained a stone in the last 6 months and a completely unable to loose it despite eating loads of salads, veg ,protein and low carbs. I have never had a weight problem before so this has been quite a shock to me. I will wait 2 weeks approx until i get my full thyroid blood screen results from Genova diagnostics. I did it privately as i cant bear to go to Gp again .

Wil post my blood results here and see what people think.

Kind Regards,

i have thyroid problems and have had problems with my cycle getting heavier and closer together, gp kept putting it down to my hyperthyroid problem, now they have found a large uterine polyp going in on friday for a hyperscopy and the removal of the polyp xx anaemia was my first sign that there was anything wrong so perhaps you could ask for an anaemia check xx

Thanks debbiejoyce for your reply. As a matter of interest how did they find that the problem was caused by a large uterine polyp? I feel my Gp just says all my symptoms are due to ME and that all my test results are normal. So frustrating as i feel cold, weight going up despite eating like a rabbit ! severe constipation and low mood .

I hope i get my private thyroid blood test results bac in 2 weeks . I would so love to not feel so unwell.

kind Regards,

Hi Gimi-Energy - your symptoms sound exactly like a wheat or gluten intolerance to me. Your symptoms are identical to what mine were. I cut out all wheat and gluten and the difference was amazing. The bloating, painful pressure and constipation all went away and I had more energy than I had remembered having before. Good luck!
