i am bit confused about adrenal problems and converting t4 into T3. is this related. i was going to do a saliva test for my bloods for cortisol to elimited any problems in that respect. but what test do you have to do to find out if you are not converting properly.

thanks

A comparison of the FT4 and FT3 would tell you. If your FT4 is high and your FT3 is low, then you probably aren't converting the T4. It could be an adrenal problem or it could just be low selenium or iron or even low HGH (Human Growth Hormone).

i have got my bloid test for when i was in 75mg,100 and 125mg. i am on 100 but feeling not good dr s is adding armour.half a grain see how i do. but i am confused about doing more tes

on 75mg no valid as i took med before:

tsh: o.o2 (o.27-4.20)miu/l

ft4: 23.8 (12-22)pmol/l

ft3:6.6 (3.9-6.7)pmol/l

on 100mcg levo:did not take meds before

ft4 17.7

tsh:o.34

on125 levo:

TSH:0.03

FT4.20.3

FT3:4.8

Anyway i dont know why i am still.not feeling well. the antifepressants helped me a lot. i dont know if it wise yo do saluva cortisol test. dr skinner has not asked for it but genova is saying that the wont give me a copy the have to send them to the dr.

i have not go problem with iron or selemnium the both been fully checked my b12 IS 380 (180-900) and i have got problems with vit d.if i dont have problems coverting is not the armour going to make feel bad.

does armour produce side effects?

"If you order tests from Genova Diagnostics, you must mention Thyroid UK when ordering the tests. Your results will then be sent directly to you. Thyroid UK will automatically receive a copy of your test results."

Really sorry for a silly question. I think I need to do my adrenal/cortisol saliva tests again and wanted to use Genova (I've used them twice before and they are just around the corner so I can drop off the sample), but I don't want to have to pay a third time for a health practitioner for a consultation etc - had hoped I could go directly to Genova, as I have done these tests a few times now and know my history, my exact results, the implications, Dr P's advice, the advice from you very clever people here etc.

So, if I mention Thyroid UK, will this be sufficient for me to order my own tests from Genova?

Might ask for T3/4 also; since I went on armour a year ago, I haven't been to see my GP, haven't told them (no faith after their attitude), and they haven't noticed I haven't been getting my thyroxine prescription nor that I haven't had a blood test in over a year!

Well, on your latest results, the FT4 is quite high, but the FT3 isn't even mid-range, so I'm not surprised you're not feeling well. Yes, I do think you have a conversion problem.

I thought the point of having a private test with Genova is that you get the results and not the doctor. What reason did they give for not giving them to you? You could ring Dr Skinner and ask.

Looks like you need some supplimentary B12, it's a bit low. Are you supplimenting your vit D if you have problems with it? There vits being low will make you feel bad.

Why should the Armour make you feel bad? It's only T4 and T3? Do you mean because of too much T4? I was wondering why your docor was giving you Armour instead of just T3. There isn't much T3 in half a grain so I'm not sure it will help much.

dr skinner did not think my vit b12 was a problem.how shall i suppliment it and how much should i aim for?

if i have a conversion problwm does that mean that i have an adrenal problem?

dr skinner is adding a trisl of armour to my t4. try 1/2 a grain for a months and another month with one grain.i dont know this is what he said.

he asked me what i wanted but i dont know hoe to make me fell better i just know for dome teason i feel way better on sntidepressants i dont have symthoms.

Did you tell genova that your practitioner was Tpa or did you put dr skinner? We have an arrangement that if you put tpa you get the results , otherwise they go to the doc.

What are you doing about the b12 level?. It's in range but too low.

Sorry, I thought I was on the Tpa site. Have been out in the sun all day..... Thyroid uk also have the arrangement as far as I know, so that if you put them down as your practitioner, the results will be sent direct to you.

I've got the B12 'boost' spray, my intended next 'supplement' after Vit D (which def works for my joint/muscle pain) I'm waiting for the latter test results results after a year supplementing, but they seem to have got my email wrong, again. :(

My intention is to do one at a time as 'pillophobic'. GP won't do these 'silly' vitamin tests, or more Thyroid tests even after a PT either... very frustrating.

It's metylcobalime apricot flavour, tempted but am thinking I should have a test first to see if I actually NEED it? (but probably do as know low Thyroid function makes everything slow down).

Meanwhile, reading Dr Broda Barnes book (1976), the basal temperature test is paramount in HypoThyroid, another 'silly' test which GPs no longer do - but we can do it ourselves and it's free! Humph!

BTW If anyone wants to do a study, I am the control group (for referencet) as I am prescribed absolutely nothing for obvious Hypo symptoms, but getting a bit fed up now! however still smiling 'tho :D

hello spareribs.

thank you for info. i wss thinking about the bsal temperature test. whn to take it and ranges if temperature and can i use a ear thermimetor?thsnks

in reply to anuska

I think most people take it by mouth first thing, (it doesn't work if you've had a glass of wine the night before 'tho). I got 2 thermometers off amazon and both batteries were dead... J :D
