I am writing this for my Mother, she is so poorly with thyroid problems and has no support from her Doctor and will not increase her thyroxine even though she has major underactive symptoms. She can hardly walk and her brain fatigue is so bad it's scary! Where do I go from here?

Very difficult, a few ideas (most of which will probably be difficult-to-impossible for various reasons):

Get numbers of test results - including reference ranges.

Get a second opinion from a different doctor.

Maximise what she gets by making sure that she takes what she does take well away from food, drink (other than water), supplements and other medicines.

Get her re-tested and get vitamin B12, folates, iron/ferritin and vitamin D done as well.

See if she would switch time of taking to bed-time (if appropriate).

Best of luck

Rod

Thank you for your prompt reply!

My plan is to make an appointment with her Dr to discuss if it will be possible to refer her back to Dr Skinner(Mother saw him many years ago) but unsure whether Dr will? If not then I will ask to see another Dr.

Although I have sorted her B12 etc she forgets she has taken them or not as the brain fatigue is very bad.Difficult as I am only there once a week.I shall mention taking them away from foods etc.

Thanks again :)

Why not check with Dr S office whether she actually needs another referral. Since she's seen him in the past it may not be necessary.
