My 26 year old daughter suffers with debilitating ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACKS daily!! She is always freezing cold to the point it makes her sick and then she has night sweats! She gets exhausted so easily, brain fog, IBS, terrible joint pain where it’s hard for her to grab the steering wheel, and INSOMNIA!! She is gluten intolerant and dairy messes up her stomach! She has SCOLIOSIS, 14’ curse, suffers terrible with neck and back pain! By the Grace of God she graduated from college 14 months ago and has not worked since graduation! She’s about to give up! She said she can’t imagine living like this!!! Please help me! TIA

Hi, I am fairly new to this site but have learned that you can get input fast by posting thyroid lab tests with their corresponding ranges. Has your daughter had any drawn yet? She sounds like she has many of our thyroid symptoms. A full thyroid function test I've learned here includes: TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 & thyroid antibodies. These labs are also recommended: B12, vitamin D, iron, ferritin & folate. It sounds like many patients need to be squeaky wheels to get their doctor on board to order as many of these labs as possible.

Based on my own personal experience I'd encourage your daughter to try a Alexander Technique session. It is a very gentle technique that can help her very gently with her scoliosis, miscellaneous aches & pains (it is excellent with neck & back pain). Their breathing technique can help her with her anxiety. In my opinion it would be a excellent adjunct for her to consider as she obtains proper thyroid care.

The veteran posters here know their stuff so hopefully you can give them some labs to work with soon. The Grace of God got your daughter as you say thru college. He will see her through this low point in her life too. Please keep us posted on her progress.

Sounds like she may have autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto's diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Low vitamin are extremely common as is dairy and gluten intolerance

Low B12 can cause night sweats

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

Low B12 and low vitamin D insomnia

drgominak.com/sleep/vitamin...

Are you in UK? Or USA?

For full Thyroid evaluation TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.

Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT4 and FT3 plus these vitamins

Private tests are available in UK

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten, 2nd most common is dairy (or casein in cows milk - not in sheep or goat milk)

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

What about CORTISOL? Should we get that test also?

If you are considering an adrenal test, get one that tests cortisol plus DHEA.

Regenerus and Genova Diagnostics both do a 24 hour 4 x saliva test that tests both. Details on ThyroidUK's main website here

thyroiduk.org/tuk/testing/p...

Regenerus send results direct to you. Genova require a "practitioner", which is ThyroidUK, and results are sent to TUK who then send them on to you.

I'm sure you'll get much support and ideas from the other members here.

I can highly recommend Natrol brand Melatonin for severe insomnia. For some 10 years I took 3mg tablet about 30 mins prior to wanting to go to sleep. Now I take 1.5mg nightly. It helps me nod off and also keeps me asleep. Even if I get up to go to the loo a few times I can usually drop back off to sleep again with the melatonin.

On particularly bad nights, I also add in some or all of the following: Paul McKenna's hypnosis Sleep Like a Log cd, Weleda's Avena Sativa comp drops, Dr Stuart's valerian tea, nytol.

Has your daughter been dx with hypothyroidism? If you post her thyroid test results, with the range following the result in brackets, members will share their wisdom and suggestions.

I'm sure that many of her symptoms can be improved so that she won't feel so desperate and like giving up, but I do understand that horrible feeling as I've been there numerous times myself over the years when not properly medicated in the earlier years [been sick since 2000].

You can pay privately for full thyroid panel if your doctor is unhelpful/unwilling to listen or support you as mine is!

best of luck.

Melatonin can give some people really disturbing dreams. My husband started taking it to help him sleep when he traveled. His dreams became very emotionally charged so he stopped using it.
