hair loss: hi can anyone tell me if hair loss on... - Thyroid UK
hair loss
Hi Paul,
Hair loss anywhere on your body can be because of thyroid problems. Have you had a look on the list of syptoms on the Thyroid UK site? If you find you have a lot more symptoms you need to go to your doctor and get you TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested. Even this test isn't very accurate. It's a good idea to get your cholesterol tested, as raised cholesterol is another symptom that your thyroid is underactive.
Good luck,
Helen.
i do have a underactive thyroid on 200 mg og levo per day
Ok, then yes it's definitely thyroid related, I thought maybe you hadn't been diagnosed yet. I was on 200 mcg until the last few weeks, my under arm hair doesn't grow, lost most of my eyebrows and lots of eyelashes. The weird thing is the few lashes that have grown back are white and very thick. I've lost a third of my head hair. I'd like to know when we are optimally treated will all these things be reversed?
Do you feel an improvement on levo?
been on 200 mg now for 7 months dont feel much better. just the loss of leg hair not to keen on lady legs lol but i thought being on meds 2 years would of corrected everything by now .but i guess we will never be back to normal there always be something as our gps are clueless to thyroid probs cheers paul
I've felt no improvement on Levo after 2 years. I've put myself on Armour, a glimmer of hope. My skin is softening slightly. I 'm reducing the Levo, down to 150mcg now. I think so many people don't convert the T4 to T3. The little bit of T3 in Armour is just getting through. Hurrah!
GP's have been just terrible, so lacking in knowledge about thyroid issues. I'm paying for my treatment now.
Just lost my reply grhh!
I've never felt any better on levo I'm now paying for Armour. The little bit of T3 in Armour I think is getting through. My skin is softening, and slightly more energy.
I think a lot of people just don't convert the T4. Maybe you should have a change of treatment?
Don't get me started on doctors, I've taken myself out of that system.
Best Wishes,
Helen.
Now my previous reply has popped up, lol!!
I assumed my loss of underarm hair was due to being past the menopause! I still have hair on my legs, so need to shave them weekly (used to be more often); I'd be happy if I didn't!
Disappearing eyebrows was one of the first symptoms of my being "hypo"...
l have body hair loss too on 200 leve
9 months
It is but not everyone seems to develop some of the typical symptoms of hypo. For me the most troubling symptoms were general joint pain plus muscle aches/ weakness and fatigue. The others are not really something I would have seen the doc about and only realised they could be related after diagnosis and after reading. I do not fall asleep easily (insomniac), have no constipation, do not suffer generally with the cold, apart from extremities.Plus am not especially worried about my weight, a dumpy size 16.
I am worried about my cholesterol and noticed my thinning eyebrows after getting my hair cut. Asked for a shorter fringe.Odd look as I favour one eye so immediately noticed that not only was one eye wider than the other but also that my eyebrows, whats left of them, were not level Left feeling like cyclops Plus I've always had very thick, Chinese hair not Chinese, but dead straight and almost black in my youth, I went grey in my 20s/ 30s When I push my fringe back, I can see that the hairline is receding. The other cosmetic symptoms I can deal with. Perhaps because I was so physically ill that I didn't notice them.
I am really down about having Graves. Diagnosed 6 months ago I have been on Carb and while the symptoms -rapid heart, weak muscles, weight loss, insomnia, itching have gone I am losing hair, have no sex drive or confidence and can't seem to make even small decisions. My eyes are always dry and itchy and 1 is slightly wider than the other. I feel like a freak. I have read Primrose Oil helps ... Does it?
