Hi, I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and am having problems with the Serum gamma-glutamyl level. It has been raised for around 18 months. It is now 98 and the range is (<40).

Does anyone have any ideas as my doctor doesn't!

Thanks

I have same problem with my liver function tests been abnormal for some time my

Gamma GT has been as high as 134 and now at 115 (range <40.0). I am not on any medication as yet as my doctor says my thyroid tests are within normal range !!

The link below is very medical but informative

My liver functions came back "normal" but I seem to have liver problems so I asked if they were related and was told no.

Could someone put the article qjmmed.oxfordjournals.org/co into simple English please.

Hi I have hashi and liver disease ( never drunk) , liver may be autoimmune, like thyroid auto immune. This may be due to high sugar, Glucose and Hb1Ac tests, The symptoms are very similar to hypo, autoimmune and hormonal. this often effects the liver. If liver disease lots of pain and often all the LFT`s are out. Not always..Make sure you see an endo as Metformin is not normally suitable, the most commonly prescribed diabetes drug,, most docs do not know this! You do not have to be over weight etc. All the bloods start off in the liver so, others may be "odd" to.

best wishes, Jackie

I have Hashimoto's and have had abnormal liver results over the years - usually ALT, AST and/or GGT - but, like your doctor, mine don't know what's causing these. AIH was mentioned but I had further tests and a scan of my liver and told that I don't have this. I'm at a loss like you so anything you find out would be gratefully received. Good luck.

Just a thought - I have heard/read that Amitriptyline can cause liver abnormalities but doctors don't tend to agree when I've asked them about this. I take 10 mg at night and have done for about 8 years now.
