I'm much better since sleeping better. I think I was needing to pee because I was awake rather than waking up because I need to pee, if that makes sense.

I noticed on another post that you have to nap in the afternoons and that you are hypothyroid. This could be because you are under-replaced and need your thyroid meds increasing. It could also be a cortisol problem. This could explain your frequent waking to pee in the night.

Sorry I don't have any definitive answers.

If you generally pee more than usual plus are thirsty,it could be worth ruling diabetes out. You wouls need to ask for a fasting blood test.

I have the same problem its so soul destroying, although i did only got up 3 times for the loo last night, I wonder if its hereditary ? my dads the same as me but no thyroid probs, we plan our trips round were toilets are :( and if theres no toilets in places we go we dont venture there , i would gladly pay 20p to use a loo in a shop ,if every shop was made to have toilet facilitys, also had all the diabetic tests,

That does sound like adrenal fatigue to me. It would be worth getting your adrenals tested. There was a time when I had to get up every hour on the hour to pee - didn't get much sleep! But now I'm treating my adrenals, I don't wake up at all.

many thanks I will try that . Ging

It's one of those"how long is piece of string" type questions!

Nocturia is the technical term for it - lots to look into on Google!

Very common reasons:

Male... BPH with over 50''s (I've got it, age 55!) :-(

Haven't found Thyroid to make any difference to me , nor has treating my adrenal fatigue, although some people with low Aldosterone need to replace mineralocorticoids too using fludrocortisone too.

Males and females... Over-active Bladder Syndrome patient.co.uk/health/Overac...

Loads of other things too... kidney stones or bladder problems are not uncommon so I wouldn't just jump to the conclusion that is it thyroid related without checking things out.

I found mine improved quite a bit when I got my High blood pressure treated using an ARB...( I take Telmisartan) - went from 5 times a night to about only twice, but it hasn't gone away by any means!

Good luck :-)

Are you sure that you do not have a urine infection? There are also "Bladder Dynamics" tests that can be done to see why this may be happening, is it due to muscle weakness or nerve problems or the syndrome mentioned above. You will not be getting enough sleep so this is very important, have you had any tests done?

How is your sleep? Do you snore? I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea a couple of years ago and was needing to pee at least twice a night. Once I got fitted with the CPAP mask I started sleeping right through the night. Apparently if you're not having proper deep sleep you produce more urine. If you go into deep restorative sleep you produce less urine. Just a thought

Thankyou so much dimples, I am seeing my doc next week with the relevant article in the hope that she will refer me to a sleep clinic. Watch this space ! Ging

good luck. In the meantime you could have a look on britishsnoring.org.uk which has a simple test you can do (take seconds) to determine the cause of your snoring ie blocked nose, throat etc. Mine is caused by what they call "palatal flutter" which means that because I'm overweight my throat collapses when I go to sleep and then I stop breathing (18 times an hour without my CPAP). It seems there are many people with undiagnosed sleeping disorders that cause all sorts of other problems for them. You deserve a good night's sleep!
