Hello, are Iodine supplements recommended for people to take with an underactive thyroid? I'm on 100mcgs, blood tests good but still tired!

Well I was told to take kelp by dr p! Some say not to take it though. Complicated as usual!! Lol

Yes, it is complicated! But if you do a search in the search window above, you will find lots of information.

But as a general rule, I would say don't take it unless you know you need it. If you are iodine deficient, it will help, but if you aren't, it could do more harm than good. Best thing is to get tested.

Hope this helps, Grey

Have you got your latest thyroid blood results with the ranges please? Also, have you had B12 tested?

My fatigue has disappeared after taking Iron supplements and selenium ( for converting T4 into T3). The iron I am taking is gentle iron and is not giving me any unpleasant side effects.

Hi Monix,

I have low selenium and low iron but I'd been told that iron competes with selenium absorption. Did you take them some hours apart, or at the same time? How long did it take for your fatigue to reduce? I'm about 85% recovered have just a small amount of residual tiredness.

I had my iron levels tested first and although they were within the range, they were on the bottom end of the range. My ferritin was low.

I take my selenium in the morning and then take my iron with the evening meal. I felt the improvement almost immediately once I took the iron. I am hoping that my levels have gone up. Will be testing them again in a couple of months.

Latest blood test results, look within the normal range although still feel pretty rough. Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm wondering whether Kelp would help or hinder?

Serum TSH level. 0.50mU/L (0.30-4.20U/L)

Sreuum free T4 level 17.0 pmol/L (12.00 - 22.00pmol/L)

Thanks
