Have just been given a script for thyroxine 50 mcg. for 4 week trial, which brand have people found most effective/tolerable, and which brand to ask for if not actually mentioned?
Also please when best to take?

Siskin,
In 50 microgram tablets you potentially have a choice of:
Actavis and made-by-Actavis-but-packaged-as-Almus-or-Lloyds
OR
Mercury Pharma in any of their packaging (see TUK link)
And that is it.
Unless you know you have a problem with an ingredient, I suggest it really does not matter. Some people prefer one, some the other. And you will never know which unlessand until you have tried both.

I suggest you have a look here:

Lots of discussions/experiences. I take mine at bed-time. Partly because it avoids coffee and breakfast clashes which would otherwise be likely. But also because it made sense to me.
Rod
Hi
I was taking thyroxine for years (sorry Cant remember the makes and have recently changed chemists and they use different makers and also when I was in hospital for a week last month another different one.
I in all honestly cant tell the difference.
I think Rod is pretty well right about when to take them as in the morning I have lots of other things which can clash as they say two hours before and after without food or drink and that (night time) is the best time for taking them for me anyway.
Take care and kindest regards
Terry
