I'm going nuts here and I've had enough. Can anyone help with giving me the name of a GP that prescribes NDT in my area (Watford)? By private message of course. I am so sick of trying to find out this info, I know there must be a GP out there who will let me trial it at least. I've tried freedom of information requests to my PCT, tried asking all local pharmacies, and I'm coming up against brick walls everywhere. I changed GP's after years with a hopeless one and have made tiny progress with getting my levo increased by my new one (and getting lots of other AI tests done) but have found that he won't even discuss other options for medication. I can go private if I have to, but I don't want to until I have no other choice left. I can't even get an Endo referral as I am not considered in need of one. My TSH is suppressed, (which my GP doesn't like but will allow as I feel better this way), I am holding down a full-time job and I am therefore a success story who doesn't need further investigation. However, I have a RT3 problem (found on a private test, my GP won't even acknowledge it) and I have lingering mental and emotional symptoms, as well as reduced physical function since being hypo (I am 5 years post-RAI).
PLEASE can someone help. I just need a name.

My GP won't refer me as he says I don't need to see an Endo as I'm fine. All my results are 'great'. Any problems I have are not thyroid related (he says). He won't discuss it any more. I will send an email though, thanks.
Hi MazzaM. I am in the same position as you. I really feel I would benefit from NDT or T3 and would love the opportunity to have a trial on it. If it doesn't work you at least know you've tried. I have asked a local (Devon) pharmacy if they can get NDT and they have told me they can, but need a GP's prescription and I can't get one. No GP at my surgery will consider it an option. It's so frustrating! I sympathise with you and wish you all the best.
I'm in exactly the same position as you, I'm due for a blood test on Monday but they will only test TSH and T4. I think I need T3 but I am petrified to go and ask for it off the doctor because they are so horrible saying its all in my head. My husband says he will go with me so I will let you know whether I am successful or not.
Email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org and ask for a copy of Dr Toft's article in Pulse wherein it says it is o.k. to have a suppressed TSH and also the addition of some T3 to a reduced T4.
When your doctor says 'it is all in the head' say that may be because my T3 is too low. Is my levothyroxine converting to enough T3. Do you know that every cell in my body requires T3 to work and the brain contains the most cells of the billions that are in our bodies. He probably doesn't even know this. Ask him the questions first and see what he replies.
