Cost, basically, and the mistaken belief that TSH tells them everything they need to know! They may test for it if you have an abnormal TSH but they won't normally.

My GP does try each time but the lab never do it. He says its down to cost and is madness.

Hi Costs, here no NHS Lab will do a Free T3 test. it was always considered essential years ago and automatically tested. Then my only blood abnormal was the Free T3, I desperately needed and had treatment. ( armour, no T3 then ) Now my endo and I consider FT3 essential.

best wishes,

Jackie

To save money but in the long run it possibly ends up costing more as loads of other investigations end up being done to get to the bottom of things.

I think it is sinister and they will do no end of expensive tests to no avail when the T3 test could well resolve health problems that get different diagnosis and treatments.
