I suspect the answer is use it in place of other oils. I think Dr Mercola is the one propagating this theory, so maybe read his blurb. I'm hyper myself so I just use it as a massage oil. :-)

Some people spread it on bread; others cook with it. Some mix it with melted chocolate and other ingredients to make a tasty cake-type snack. Perhaps a search for recipes using coconut oil on Google?

Apparently it's very good for shallow frying your onions and such too.

surely the benefits of taking it are neutralised by taking it with chocolate? best idea I've heard so far though, i looove dark chocolate bounty!

It is very hard to find any bad points regarding decent dark chocolate.

(There again, I have absolutely NO intention of looking for any.)

Besides the earlier suggestions for cooking, I add it to fresh fruit milkshakes/smoothies. Can be used in a homemade tooth paste or for "oil pulling" - yuk and clogs the sink drainpipe.

Hmm thanks for those ideas - will try! Do you find it beneficial editfmrt?

Oil pulling?

Have to be honest and tell you I haven't tried it.

I came across it when searching for cooking recipes because I don't really like the taste of it as a spread or by the spoonful. It is good for frying though.

Oil pulling should Never be done IF you still have Amalgam fillings.

If you want to be sure Google 'oil pulling with Amalgam fillings'

I cook my porridge with water and melt a piece of coconut cream, which contains plenty of the oil, in it. It comes in a solid block. I use an organic one by Biona.

I take 100% extra virgin coconut oil 1000mg softgel "Jarrow formulas" be prepared they are like horse pills but you can't taste any coconut (I hate the taste and the smell and couldn't tolerate it if it did) Supposed to help your metabolism. Seems you must have the extra virgin type:

There are a lot more sites with info.

Don't take a tablespoon in one go. Use it as suggested above.

If you like granola style breakfasts try this: big bag of oats ( I use gluten free) roughly chop walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and add to oats. Big handful of raisins and linseeds, add that too. Then take three tablespoons of coconut oil ( I use organic Biona) use a good quality one from health food shop and rub in to the other ingredients. I add a little sea salt and if you like it sweeter add some honey or agave or rice syrup. Sprinkle on a little cinnamon and bake in a medium oven fr 15 mins - have a good stir and bake or another 10. Delicious!!!!!!! Yummy with yogurt for puddings too.

Depends on your oven but I'd say about 160. Just keep checking it. I also add puffed brown rice afterwards - like sugar puffs but healthy!!!! - or you could add any puffed grains, it just makes it go further.

Might try this - why is it good for people with UAT?

It is good to bring up your temperature which is usually low with hypothyroidism. I just use it for cooking and in smoothies, and will be trying the above recipe asap as it sounds brilliant. The theory of coconut oil is that the body cannot store it, and the energy goes into increasing the metabolism and into the brain function and helps overcome foggy brains. It is good for alzheimers too for this reason.

I use coconut oil as a moisturizer. It soaks right in after a bath or shower. I use it instead of vegetable oil to cook with.

I LOVE my eggs fried in coconut oil. The thought wasn't appealing, but I finally did it and there's a gentle almost herbal flavor (NOT sweet as I had sorta thought) that is even better than butter. Also, fish, (salmon mmmmm) in coconut oil is great. Anything you saute can be enhanced. I cannot imagine eating it or any other grease by itself. Yecch. I think some people use it with salad dressing. It has a high solidifying temp, so you don't but it on cold food. It must be warm to use as an oil.
