I think this would be quite rare as you would feel the effect very quickly and either see your GP promptly or miss the next day's dose and also reducing your intake

Hi it is the same , except that NDT alters the blood very quickly and the symptoms , unlike the synthetic treatments for thyroid. If worried ,also, make sure you have a TSH T4 and Free T3 tests. it is less likely to harm you to under dose than over dose.

Rapid weight loss is the first that comes to mind but please go by how you feel not the ridiculous blood test results!!

I'd like to know the answer to this too.

I've been self treating with NDT for 21 days now, 10 days on 1 & 3/4 gr. split in 2 doses, 10am and 12pm.

I was doing great, basal is steady at 36.7, but my daytime temps from 10am right through to now (9pm) are raised at between 37.0 but up to 99.2)

My BP is slightly raised 134/88 (normal is 115/70), and pulse is up from average of 70 to 91 today.

I have internal fine shaking and my hubby put his hands on my shoulders and said he could feel it.

Yesterday I dropped by an 1/8th of the dose and it made me feel hypo again, cold, icy cold hands, achy neck and shoulders, and temp lowered to 36.8.

So I went back to the full 1 & 3/4s today and temps are back up. How on earth can an 8th less make so much difference?

I feel fine otherwise, no palps or anything, could I be over stimulated?

Would it help to split my dose 3 times through the day somehow?

Thanks

It might help to split your dose into 3 or even 4, as your symptoms could be due to stressed adrenals.

It could also be that you started on too high a dose. I think the usual starting dose is 0.5 to 1 grain with raises of half a grain (or a quarter if particularly sensitive to meds like me) evey 3-4 weeks. Mind you it has taken me a whole year to get up to 2.25 grains :D

I was over-medicated on thyroxine once and to be honest I had the same symptoms as I did when very hypo.

I'm afraid it can all be very confusing. Best to take things very slowly and raise dose in conjuction with symptoms and blood tests. xx

Hi Clarebear,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I was on T4/T3, and when I started on the normal low dose I really missed the T3, so kept on it (though a smaller dose to see me through the afternoons just for the 1st week)

The 2nd week I went to all NDT 1.5gr. I still felt really hypo that week so I added the additional 1/4 and felt good until yesterday.

As you say it is very confusing, I don't know whether this is a sign for another increase or to drop back, but I think I will try and split the doses a bit more, what do you suggest, I actually wrote it wrong before, I take a grain at 9am not 10 and the rest at 12.

The only other thing it maybe (but I don't know) is I just remembered I stopped taking Ashwagandha the past 2 evenings, would this have an effect I wonder.

Hi Dannia - I think you might be taking the 2 doses rather close together and that might be causing you the problems.

I take my doses as follows:

1 grain at 5am (I am doing the CT3M for my adrenals)

1/2 a grain at 11am

1/2 a grain at 3.30pm

1/4 of a grain at 11pm

Perhaps you could take 3/4 of a grain when you wake up, 1/2 at 11-12am and 1/2 at about 5pm? This was what I was doing on 1.75 grains :) Not sure about the Aswagandha I'm afraid - is this for high cortisol? xx

Thanks

The only other time I've felt like this was when I was taking T3, and I took a large dose all in one go but when I split it it made things go back to normal.

I have high cortisol at 8am so can't do the CT3M, so I normally wake at about 6ish, then go back to sleep so I think I need to avoid this as won't it be like doing CT3M?

I wasn't sure about taking NDT so late in the day, although I have taken it and T3 right before bed, but I think I definitely sleep better not taking it at that time.

I take the Ashwagandha for high cortisol at night too, but take it around 6pm as it acted as a stimulant when taking at bedtime.

So thanks for the dosing suggestion, maybe 8am 12pm and 4pm, ok I'll have a play around and let you all know if it makes a difference (It did immediately when I changed the T3)

Hope this helps you too Bluedaffodil.

Just a quickie update.

I took my NDT over 3 doses today, and temps and BP/Pulse are better today.

There's also less inner trembling/shaking, so it seems the multi dosing smaller amounts is the best way to go for me.

Thanks Clarebear :) x
