I have Graves desease and have put on three stone, is there a reliable diet anyone knows of please.
I have the same issue - put on 3.5 stone very quickly - i do a lot of exercise and eat very healthily but all that does in maintain my weight so i don't put any more on - the only thing that has made any difference is cutting gluten and eating little and often to try to reset my metabolism (making sure i eat as natural unprocessed foods as possible) - i think it will eventually shift but takes time for the body to stop thinking it is in starvation mode from being hyper - also once the hormone levels have settled the body can start to adjust - sorry i don't have anything more useful to say!
I've done every diet under the sun and made up some myself! The only way I can keep control is cut out the sugar and that means carbs mostly other than fruit ( read up on the bad ones) and veg (read up on the bad ones) and don't even look a bread! Have just had a silly Christmas and broken all my rules...result...big weight gain. Am now back on track!
I too have had a big weight gain and find it really hard to lose it even though I swim, walk and dont eat a great deal. I dont think that being on carbimazole helps nor do the people who keep saying " hypers lose weight"!!!!
No they dont, not all the time!!
Sorry rant over.
Have graves two years now still got thyroid take carbimazole 20mg daily and levo 25mg every 3 - 4 days and try keep f4 in upper range 22 -23 even little bit more 25 i dont take beta blockers they interfere with f3 conversion i read. plus i want a natural pulse. and i control my f4 levels by keeping tight record of my pulse at rest twice daily and when it increases slightly i take my levo every 4 days rather than 3 and when my stools aint every day twice a day then i take levo every 4 days. Being hyper we have to be in top of range and if were not we will put on wait. We have had a live of being skinny cos we have had a higher Metabolism. And if i have to put up with the other symptoms of thyroid disease i aint giving up cream cakes lol hope this helps
