why does a under active thyroid,effect your weight gain and is there certain types of food to speed things up.

You may want to read Dr Mansfields book on the Six Secrets of Successful Weightloss. Low fat diets and calorie control diets are not the way to lose and maintain Weightloss. Dr Mansfield found that most people who had weight issues had undiagnosed food intolerances. The book tells you how to self diagnose those intolerances and so get on the oath to successful Weightloss

Hi When I started thyroid treatment, a long time ago,only my Ft 3 was very low and this I found accounted for my weight gain. My endo always says that the diabetes diet is best. It is disconcerting, I know and takes a long while . However as you start to feel better you should be able to be more active which, of course, will help.
