POST TOTAL THYRIODECTOMY TIP

Hi all i am 3 weeks post op from a total thyriodectomy and im on 125 thyroxine and i wondered if anyone had any tips on weight loss and letargy or scaar treatment. or anything really....

Hi,Bio oil is really good for scars to help them fade ,as long as its fully healed ,as for weight loss if anyone had that sussed they would be worth a mint .

Cool, well the nurse said i can start getting it wet. but no creams as yet. Did you get really lethargic after operation im on 125 mg of thyroxine and im getting no energuy what so ever.

I haven't had that op so cant comment but have had other op's that I have used Bio Oil on ,and after my op's that I have had always feel very lethargic for ages after ,but that is more to do with the anesthetic ,but I feel lethargic most of the time anyway ,most days I have to have a sleep .

Hi Sara

I had a partial one 2 months ago. 3.5" Scar - suture out 10 days. They said put vaseline at first then I've put a little bio oil & moiturising creme and massaged it a bit - it seems less hard/swollen now (except first thing in the mornings) and is a thin pink line (but I wear a scarf anyway at work). There's an annoying lump where the drain was!

Tired - yes but better than I was I think, but no tremor or palpitations or freezing

(however everything else is hurting! and I feel such a wimp- no blood test yet)

Why did you have a total one?

I've got about 3 stone extra too, but I really don't eat much, then again I have no energy to excercise either - it's enough struggle to turn up at work every day!

I'm three years down the line (on Tuesday 2nd), as told to use unfragranced moisturisor, scar is barely visable, staple holes were more o an issue, but they have faded, as for weight loss, strict sensible diet and gymthree times a week, are doing it for me Put on over two half stone since op, losing steadily, I am on 175m Tyroxine, due review now so will wait and see, pushed the hospital to push the levels up and it worked

had total thyroidectomy 2 years ago. My surgeon prescribed 150mg levthyroxine to be taken each morning to which my doctor reduced to 100mg at my 1st blood test post op and now wants to reduce to 75mg!!!!!!!. I am 4 stone over weight and still displaying all the physical side effects of an under active thyroid not to mention the emotional burden of feeling unattractive due to the weight gain.

I had a total thyroidectomy 5 year ago. I am struggling to lose weight at the minute and it keeps creeping on. Not long had my bloods checked. So sorry have no tips.

As for the scar I have ended up with a noticable one. I used bio oils, E45 the lot. So I am not sure if it helped.
