Tina,

Some of your question seems to be missing - can you come back and say what you really want to know?

When asking a question you need to put a very short title or subject in "Question summary" and the full question in "Extra information".

Anyway - if you have taken more than your doctors think you should are you feeling bad? Or are you feeling better? Are you going to run out?

All the best

hi rod. ive taken too much thyroxin over last seven days. should have taken only 75mg but instead took 125mg and am feeling very tired shakey and achey and agitated. should i stop taking thyroxin for a while or should i continue taking the normal 75mg.

Tina,

Do bear in mind that I am not a doctor and have never experienced what you are going through.

I would simply not take any tomorrow, and maybe the next day. Then perhaps restart on 25mcg for a day or two, then 50mcg for a further day or two and back to 75mcg. BUT at all times take into account how you are at that moment.

If you feel really bad go to a doctor (even a hospital A&E) as they would be in a position to prescribe something (probably propranolol) which can reduce the impact.

You mgiht have to split pills to achieve the above doses - if so a cheap pill splitter available at any pharmacy will do the job.

Hi Tina over doseing is not the answer should be guided by your doctors I have been on I h thyroixin for 10 years have very good days and bad days they have just upped mine to 125 mg think it takes at least 6to 8 weeks to kick in hope you get on ok

The 6 to 8 weeks often mentioned is how long it can take for the blood levels, especially TSH, to stabilise again after a change of dose. However even this may be an overestimate and day-by-day variations may be more important in a much shorter period.

The effect of an increased dose of thyroxine can often be noticed within minutes or hours, though a small change of dose may take longer to really be noticed. There are several research papers that detail the changes in thyroid hormones and TSH hour by hour after taking a dose of thyroxine.
