Hiya,

Just wondering if you've seen your doctor about this and if you've had any checks on your ears (inner ear) as this plays a huge role in balancing.

This is a symptom that I also experienced when I was severely hypo and in the early stages of treatment. It went away eventually. Are you on a stable dose of thyroid medication yet? Do you know what your last thyroid test result was?

As Tracey suggested, there could be an ear involvement. Labyrinthitis is one possibility that might be worth checking out. Take a look here:

Kimbo,

One rare possibility is Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease.

I suggest you have a look here:

emedicine.medscape.com/arti...

And another is Meniere Disease - for which look here:

Hopefully the articles might help you to identify what is happening even if it is something else entirely.

All the best

Hiya, ive just been given some medication for balance problems in the last 2 weeks, GP said its vertigo and its listed as a symptom of hypo in all my books, the tablets do help with it though. plus ive only just had my medication upped for my levothyroxine so i know it can take a long time before things improve symptom wise. Feel like im learning stuff all the time even though its a few years since iv been diagnosed hypo. Hope you can get it sorted out, are you on the right amount of thyroid medication yet?

take care

I went to the Drs with the same problem dizziness Sometimes I feel im walking like a drunk and get a funny electric feeling in my head and I have to close my eyes to stop the room from spinning. Dr also put it down to stress, one minute I feel almost ok'ish and the next minute think im going off my rocker and very very tearful. I have Graves had radio iodine destroyed the whole thyroid now im supposed to be at the top end 21.... I think it is so its almost going over active again Had the rai 6 weeks ago. im so fed up I just cant cope :'( having blood test every two weeks but I am also waiting for a kidney transplant so I guess they have to be extra catious. I dont know I just dont know who I am anymore.

I have had trouble with my balance for 12 yrs or more, in the autumn im always worried im going to slip on wet leaves on the pavement ! I had a very late diagnosis of hashimotos 5ys ago . Some time ago I read somewhere that there is a conection with thyroid conditions/hormones. It made sense to me because I used to be very sure footed and agile, Im sure its conected to my hypothyroidism. I havent had dizzyness though so I guess you should investigate further. good luck maggie

I get this whenevr I am under, also my reflexes are very slow, I drop a lot of stuff. It is worse in the dark. I also got tinnitus. I would take a good B complex to rule out B12 deficiency and start taking selenium, it has helped me. It is a symptom of hypo, this awful wonkiness.

Definitely get your B12 levels checked. I was constantly walking into the edges of doors, bouncing my shoulder off the wall and generally being unable to judge the space around me. B12 deficiency diagnosed and with treatment these symptoms disappeared.
