Hiya all, been reading a lot of post here and if I'm right most people take there thyroid tablet first thing in morning. I take mine last thing before I go to bed, my question is so when is the best time to take it !!
Best time to take thyroxin.: Hiya all, been... - Thyroid UK
Best time to take thyroxin.
Vikki,
I have only been taking it for three weeks. And, due to what I have read, decided to take mine at bed time.
It appears that this is a perfectly reasonable alternative. As I have always eaten breakfast - the problem of managing to take thyroxine, eat breakfast, have a drink and get to work is awkward.
On my current low dose, I certainly have not felt it keeping me awake (which some people have suggested) - and might even be sleeping slightly better.
Research on this also suggests that you might absorb it very slightly better when taking it at night.
But almost universally the patient information leaflets and so on suggest the morning. I don't think there is any research to show the morning being better than bedtime.
Which fits better into your life?
All the best

I have seen my endo recently who suggested that I should change to night time dosing rather than morning. This was because he said there was some evidence to suggest that for some people night time dosing was more effective, especially if there may be absorbition problems. Previously I would take mine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and have breakfast about two hours later. The endo suggested that I take it last thing at night and no food for about two hours before taking meds - and only take with water. Its early days but haven't noticed any difference as yet.
