Hi everyone

I’ve recently bought some CoQ10 supplements to try.I’ve just read that it can interfere with the absorption of Levothyroxine.Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks

Hi greygoose

I did a search on google, and it’s the first thing that came up

OK, but that doesn't tell me what you actually read. As you're in the UK and I'm in France, we're not going to get the same results. And I'd like to check it out and see exactly what they say, because it's rare to find something that you absolutely can't take when on levo. It's usually just that they shouldn't be taken at the same time (saying they can't be taken together is misleading). You have to leave a gap of at least two hours for everything with levo.

I've read somewhere to take any supplements about four hours after taking Levothyroxine as most can interfere with absorption.

I would go with this four hour rule. There are also certain foods and beverages that this rule applies to. Here is a link to supplements that need to be taken away from levo: londonclinicofnutrition.co.....

All supplements need to be taken away from levo!

Any idea if that’s the same withNDT

Yes, the same, because NDT contains T4. And, to be on the safe-side, it's best to keep supplements away from T3, as well. These hormones are too expensive, and hard to come by, to risk compromising their absorption.

That’s interesting, when I wake around 9am I take my 3.5 grains ERFA , 7.5mg hydrocortisone, DHEA and pregnonelone, then breakfast about 30 mins later, then a pile of vitamins after breakfast. I then take 5mg hydrocortisone around 1pm, lunch 1.30 and more vits.

I have recently changed to 2 grains erfa on waking and 1.5 grains with the 1pm hydrocortisone but the 1.5 is near lunch and the post lunch vits.

I wondered if I need such a high dose of ERFA (in fact 3.5 isn’t enough hence increasing) due to poor absorption and if timing is part/all of the issue.

I wondered if I should just take all or part of the ERFA at 4 am (toilet break). I know John Lowe used to take all his T3 in one dose in the middle of the night.

Any views welcome.

I would also question if you really need so many vits. But absorbtion - or lack of it- is almost certain to be at least part of your problem, given your routine.
