Does norovirus with diarrhoea affect Levothyroxine absorption?

Has anyone had diarrhoea due to norovirus and has that affected levothyroxine absorption? How did you overcome this challenge?

Unfortunately I caught the norovirus and started having diarrhoea for a day. I’m wondering how would that affect Levo absorption and any tips to manage levo levels? I’m also slightly worried as I’m pregnant at the moment and wasn’t sure how that would affect the levels?

Any insights is hugely appreciated. Thank you!

Usually Norovirus is short lived. I don’t think you should have any problems with your Levo, with this blip. Naturally if it goes on longer than 24 hours then that’s a different matter. I noticed no change when I had it.

Thanks for your reply :) I had diarrhoea for last two days now. It's not continuous but it did worry me about my levo absorption yesterday. Luckily, my diarrhoea paused for the time when I last took my levo at 3am and 8am so for now, I'm feeling less anxious about it.

That’s good. Remember the levo itself does nothing. Essentially it’s there waiting to be converted. You can miss doses without any blips. The odd person can be aware of ‘missing’ their dose but honestly a day, a couple of days, you will be fine. Just keep taking it as normal. Some of it will be absorbed.

Seriously can't answer specifically, but anything that upsets your metabolism will upset the absorption of all medications and nutrients, but I wouldn't worry if it is not prolonged like more than 5 days . Stay hydrated as best you can .

Thank you silverbelle51 😊 I'm happy to report after an intensive last night, so far I'm feeling much more energized and the stomach seems to have settled down🤞
