Hi again🤗

Can anyone please give me the link to Professor Toft’s article stating that TSH should be low, ideally less than 1.

I need to go into my GP armed with actual evidence as they just keep spouting the normal BS that my TSH is ‘normal’…..which at 2.34 is definitely not.

Many thanks in advance

Good luck with that - my TSH is just inside the range at 4. something and I was told it was normal. I quoted everything I knew but it didn't make any difference. When I persisted I was told that they thought I was depressed - I rang twice and got two different doctors and both told me the same. I don't bother anymore. Getting a private test done next week to see if there is any change. I have been trying to get my Folate and Ferritin in order to see if that helps. Hopefully your doctors will listen to you and that you get the help you need.

I don’t actually hold out much hope that I’ll get anywhere with my GP,as they all seem to be completely uneducated and not up to date with the research/evidence.I also asked my Gp to refer me to an Endocrinologist, but he said that because my bloods are ‘within range’ then I wouldn’t get a consultation……we’re just banging our heads against a brick wall aren’t we??😢

I agree, I wouldn’t hold out too much hope. I know I’m cynical but I’ve come to the conclusion that to be out of the range at either end you’d need to be half dead!

I was well below of the bottom end of the range when I was diagnosed with Graves many years ago, unfortunately after three months on carbimazole I became very hypo by the start of my block and replace treatment, can’t remember quite how high it went - certainly not the top of the range but I felt pretty awful then too. So I hate to imagine how hypo patients feel if they are over the top pf the range - I know how I felt below the lower level.

Grim either way in my experience & almost worst of all when close to but not optimised as the mind is more acutely aware of not feeling right

I long ago gave up on the white coats and self medicate on NDT. I feel a whole lot better than what those clowns claimed was optimised.

I need to read up on NDT😬

Can I ask how you source yours and what dose you take/how you know how much to take??

Many thanks

We are not allowed to name sources in the group TSH110 due to group guidelines although you can send a person message (Chat).

Yes I know that.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me. Two telephone consultations where they just talked over me and told me I was depressed and I know I'm not. Banging our heads against a brick walk is exactly what we are doing.

Title = "Thyroid hormone replacement – a counterblast to guidelines"

There was a thread on this article discussed here :

If that is the paper, it might help to link to it via EuropePMC:

Thyroid hormone replacement - a counterblast to guidelines.

Toft AD

europepmc.org/article/MED/2...

That is because it also links to the reply which might be relevant:

In response to: 'Thyroid hormone replacement - a counterblast to guidelines'.

I don't know why, but your links are sending me to unexpected places. For example, when I click on the final link I get taken to this page :

journals.sagepub.com/doi/10...

Copper Deficiency and Myelopathy after Bariatric Surgery

...

And if I follow the first link I get to page 1 of the link I want but have to pay to get the rest of it.

You are absolutely right!

I had copied the link that goes somewhere mad - their mistake not mine! Try these:

I can read both of those, thank you. The comment link is, in my view, very condescending to Toft, and says virtually nothing of any substance.

Its importance is that several endos actually thought they should write it!

The words themselves are otherwise a waste of dots on my screen. :-)
