Can you see different GP

One that has some vague idea how to manage a thyroid patient would be good

Dose should not have been increased from 150mcg to 200mcg

Far too heavy handed

And definitely shouldn’t have been reduced from 200mcg to 150mcg

Dose needs FINE TUNING

do you have any spare 100mcg tablets to cut into 1/4’s to make 25mcg

Take 175mcg for 8 weeks then retest

Meanwhile ESSENTIAL to test and maintain GOOD vitamin levels

What vitamin supplements are you taking

When and what were last vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 results

Yes I do have some spare 100s and do you think I will feel better taking 175 I feel burnt out all time they didn’t test any of the vitamins last time and at moment I’m not taking any because I was ruling things out why I was feeling so rubbish xx

How long have you been on 150mcg

And are the 50mcg and 100mcg tablets the same make?

Baileyleigh123 profile image
Baileyleigh123 in reply toSlowDragon

I’ve been on the 150 about 2 weeks now and yes there the same make x

So no point testing as too early

Get a sharp craft scalpel to cut 100mcg into 1/4’s

And a weekly pill dispenser to put them in

Retest after 6-8 weeks on 175mcg

Ask/politely insist that Vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin levels are tested at least once a year

uk doctors try to keep all hypo thyroid patients in the ‘lower quartile’ on the levels! Mine kept lowering my doses to point I was really unwell - I went to see him and asked where i was on the scale, right down in lower end, explained not where my body was happy! You can be anywhere on the scale and be well - so it’s an individual level. He raised my doses again until I knew where I felt best. You need to explain to him that you’ve been taken down to lie and ask where you are in the scale. Providing you’re not right at the top he should be ok to amend your dose

all I’ve felt since him lowering my dose is burnt out and cold his going off my tsh level which was 0.07 but they never test the ft3 or ft 4 levels you know your own body x

0.07 but they never test the ft3 or ft 4 levels

In future……Refuse to contemplate changing dose without getting FULL thyroid and vitamin testing

ALWAYS test early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Low vitamin levels tend to lower TSH

If GP can’t/won’t test …..then you will have to test yourself privately

Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning.

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

Thanks slow dragon I did say to the doctor that’s a big drop from 200 to 150 and he said no it isn’t that big of a drop and if it’s to high it causes other health issues so I think if I refused they just wouldn’t prescribe me the higher dose but I do think I will get a private test cos them doctors are a waste of time x

My TSH has been less than 1 for 25 years and I am NOT overtreated (as some doctors have insisted). I do not convert T4 to T3 well. Something few docs understand. You can read my threads on this for more info but others are correct you must have T3 and T4 tested.

I take vit D , B complex and just 3 years a small dose of T3 and haven’t felt this good in years!

It's very frustrating. Why did the Dr feel that he had to lower your T4 so drastically? From 200mcg T4 should have been lowered in my opinion if needed to Alternatively 200mcg with 175mcg T4. There is in between dose. Going from 200mcg to 150mcg is in my opinion very drastic. Are you on any nutrients Vitamin D/K2, Iron, B-12/Folate? These nutrients are very important and components to work well with our Thyroid hormones. Though not at the same time.

In addition did your Dr offer you some T3 with your new and lowered dose T4?

Journal your symptoms with the new lowered dose to present your Dr on your next follow up.

Best wishes for your well-being.

I have just of today started my vitamin d tablets again and I have put my thyroxine up to 175 because I felt like I couldn’t function right beside that I do not take any more vitamins thanks for the reply x

I can understand that your not feeling well. Your dosage dose was drastically reduced. Some do well by lowering by 25mcg at a time. But many feel better with 12.5mcg reduction or raises at one time. We need to give our body time to acclimate to adjust to the new dose. Stand your ground. You know Best How You Feel .
