When I collected mr last thyroxine prescription about 3-4 weeks ago, the pharmacy gave me a brand id not heard of before - Hillcross.
The last week I’ve felt exhausted all day after exercising, and the past couple of days I’ve felt exhausted constantly without exercising. I also noticed my temperature has dropped from my usual 36.6 to 36.5. Could my thyroid levels have dropped on this new brand? Thanks so much.
(Just to add I searched Hillcross on here and some posts said it was Teva, but it says manufactured by Accord on the leaflet in the box).

I'm sorry to hear this and I can't comment as I really don't know. I have heard of some needing the same brand, for consistent dosing, though.
I've, personally, had a problem with a (different) medication from Teva, whereby I just got no benefit. I suspect one of the fillers doesn't suit me and inhibits absorption.
I'm currently having a similiar problem, having been changed from (Liothyronine) tablet to capsule and suspect the capsule, or a filler, is inhibiting absorption. Being in UK, Roma are the only capsules available!!!
Maybe, ask your phgarmacist if you can avoid your recent brand or, speak with your GP and persuade him/her to prescibe a manufacture that you've been happy with.
Hope you sort this quickly and feel OK again very soon
Thank you, that’s kind of you to say, and you too. I’m googling the new brand I was given, I came across the government guidelines re prescribing the same brand so I’m going to request this happens from now on. I’ve never felt it was right to chop and change people all the time.
Well done re finding these NICE Guidelines. Print it out, include the web address and give to GP. How can he argue? LOL However, be ready for any excuses ...
I'd be interested to know the outcome, once you've spoken to GP Good luck
If you look on the back of the strip of tablets it might well say teva there. I was taking a brand I thought was different from teva and not feeling great until I noticed this and had to ask for a new prescription.
I had real problems with Teva thyroxine! Went back to surgery and my prescription now states must not be issued it and that product must all come from same manufacturer. They shouldn’t mix different sorts and Teva (Hillcross) seem to cause issues with quite a lot of people. However it is only one you can take if you have lactose allergy. I had to change pharmacy as Boots was only one I could find doesn’t have Teva thyroxine.
I’ve just had the same issue and also react to Teva. But i also get blotches appearing all over my face and chest with teva. Currently I feel like a wet dishrag but only minimal blotches on my face with the Accord. I’ll ask my dr to ask pharmacy for a different brand. It’s very difficult when they put a different make inside a box. You think it will be alright until you get home and open it up. Then you have to go through the dr to get the right one prescribed.
Currently 100 mcg thyroxine for 2 days, 75 mcg for one day, on repeating three day cycle along with 1/2 grain ERFA twice daily. The only other change is I went from splitting a one grain tablet to taking two half grains daily, I’m wondering if that’s the difference. Changed about 6 weeks ago.
Looking at previous posts you’re experimenting with NDT and Levo together
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
NDT or T3 ….day before test split as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test
If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal
Monitor My Health (NHS private test service) offer thyroid and vitamin testing, plus cholesterol and HBA1C for £65
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In days before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70
I was on 75mcg T3 only using Mayne T3. I switched pharmacies and they filled the prescription with Sigma T3. My FT3 went from 4.0 (2.3 - 4.2) and feeling good to 3.1 and feeling terrible. Upped my T3 dose to 90mcg and feel good again. So no, not all thyroid meds are equal potency, or maybe absorb as well. Every time I have to switch T3 brands, I recheck my FT3 levels to see if I need to change my dose.
