Just wanted to update on my post from 2024 - ‘Is thyroid meds causing mental problems’

Just thought I would update you all re my posts 11 months ago 2024. After going around the ‘houses’ i.e: mental health, thyroid checks - I got my GP to check if my daughter who has DS and was 27 at that time if she was going through early menopause which turned out to be the case. So basically, after pulling my hair out with endless sleepless nights I put 2&2 together after checking my calendar entries that her monthly cycles were extremely irregular. Well it turned out she was going through early menopause. My goodness what she had gone through mentally and physically and couldn’t explain it to me was awful for her. Her status now is improving; she is now taking HRT and her T4 has only just been increased from 75mg to 100mg and her T3 reduced from 20mg to 10mg. She is smiling again and getting on with her painting, wordsearch. However, she is not yet up to going out with friends and doing fun things but hopefully with time she will. Looking back I’ve had to battle with Endos, GPs and a totally incompetent mental health bunch of losers.

Take care all🙏

Fantastic news! Well done to you for pursuing an outcome to get your daughter well again. My experience of having to deal with mental health services for a loved one was dismall too. ....that was years ago. Recently a friend of mine had the misfortune to have to deal with them and it hasn't changed. She had to go private to get her loved one proper skilled treatment.....costing a fortune.

Unfortunately, my daughter didn’t get any help from mental health services until she’d actually taken an intentional overdose of some very powerful drugs she’d been prescribed by GP! Thankfully, her husband was on the ball, got her to throw it all back up and got her to hospital on time. Even then, the mental health services she was offered were no better than a fart in a bottle and it was a very frightening time for all of us. She’s much better now but no thanks to the NHS mental health services.

So sorry to hear this Zephyrbear. Thankgoodness for her husbands quick thinking. MH Services are a disgrace tbh.

Bless her Zephyrbear - Maybe it’s time for Mental Health Services outsourced from all councils into the private sector. Could be a complicated move. The evidence is all there and proves councils do not have the intellectual ability to provide this service to their constituents.

Take good care🙏
