anyone out there with hypothyroidism had it 16 years background running and squash to a high level still running competitively at 61 and social squash plus exercise classes train 6 days a week now retired. Just that whilst I am so grateful to be so fit my performance has definitely not been the same since I was diagnosed all those years ago. I’ve started taking thyroid supplements for a week now doubt that’s enough time to see if they benefit me. Anyone with a similar background and any solutions for increased performance is just that guys I was beating in my 20s and 30s can’t beat them now!!

Creatine monohydrate for DOMS, 90g protein a day, strength and weights to replace some cardio, Federer style - build in some rest into the training cycle 👍 aim for strength and maintaining muscle mass. You will be amazed.
On the thyroid side, how optimal are your FT4 and FT3?
Are you vitamin D, B12, ferritin and folate optimal too?
agree with creatine monohydrate 5g every day , i found it game changing . Also weight train
i aim for 3 times a week . interval training is also beneficial . But the nature of this condition sometimes it just hits you and energy and performance tanks . I just head down and keep going .
What do you mean by 'thyroid supplement'? What are the ingredients? Be very, very careful of things that call themselves 'thyroid supplements', they often contain all the wrong things!
Hi yes I run half and marathons. I'm mid 50s and run for 20 plus years at this level. Was not able to run at time of diagnosis 10 years ago. I now train about 6 days a week, weights, swim and running. I find i need to rest after a long run more than I used to. I take T4 and T3 and good quality vitamins. Worth reading up on intense exercise and thyroid levels. Take ownership of your hypo care and don't let a doctor near it, good luck.
I’ll add the point of view of someone on the threshold of 70. The mitochondria perform best when you’re 15. Thereafter they begin to lose their zeal to keep up with your competitive game. At 50 they still seem perky, because the drop off in performance is so slow. Congratulations. 🙌 You’ve lived three times as long as a mill worker in Blackburn 200 years ago. Time to start whupping your out-of-shape age cohort peers. There aren’t very many that still function at your level.
I’m the only one in my community of 55-and-older who runs. When I backpack in the Sierra Nevada and run into international travelers hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, I can’t keep up with them, carrying a ten-kilo load at 2,000 meters above sea level. It’s normal because the mitochondria are winding down. Senescence is the term for what your body is doing. It’s why there are no sixty-year-old footballers playing competitively in professional leagues. It’s not the wrinkles that make them retire. It’s senescence.
You’re spectacular. 🤗
