In the hyper phase, I am on Propranolol to keep my high BP, HR and T3 levels down (which it has)........ while we wait for my Thyroid to be completely destroyed by my immune system! Its a strange situation really isnt it, not being able to stop something damaging the body?
Anyhooo, I know I cant do anything about it but I wondered if anyone could just say how long they think they were in this situation before having to start taking medication for hypothyriodism? I dont know when this all began as the classic symptoms were misdiagnosed as menopausal and i went on HRT instead. My last normal blood test was 10 years ago, but I havent had one in between. It feels like the calm before the storm, because being hyper is quite energising and much nicer than being hyper (I think).
thank you.

How long is a piece of string? I am unaware of any research being done on this so there are no statistics.
When did you last have a blood test? What were the results/ranges? Are you saying you haven't had a blood test for ten years? Or you haven't had a 'normal' blood test - whatever that is - for ten years?
I don't think you're waiting for your immune system to destroy your thyroid, because that can take years and years, and won't be completed in one hyper swing. You'll probably have several more before you're done. And you're going to get very hypo in between swings, so will need to take thyroid hormone long before the complete destruction of your thyroid.
As for being hyper being better than being hypo, I think a lot of Graves' patients would disagree with you!
