hi, my daughter has lots of hypo symptoms but keeps being told by the gp her thyroid is normal. I don’t agree that her tsh and ft4 are normal, am I right?
Thank you
TSH higher than average and Ft4 very low
As you have autoimmune thyroid disease she definitely needs FULL thyroid including thyroid antibodies and vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested
Were any vitamin levels tested or cholesterol or GFR
Was thyroid test early morning?
thank you slow dragon. Her folate are ferritin and tanked at rock bottom. She is currently at university and so under a different doctors while studying. They haven’t even commented on these results or asked her to come back in
Yes the bloods were done early morning
So you need to try to explain to her the importance of maintaining GOOD vitamin levels
Test folate, B12, ferritin at least annually
Ideally test vitamin D twice a year
I have and I’ve asked her to go back for an antibody test and full vitamins test. I will make sure nothings missed… I think I was just wondering if you thought these bloods warranted a trial of levo given she’s symptomatic AND low in iron as a result of her low thyroid
She won’t get diagnosed via a GP until had 2 tests with TSH over 5
High thyroid antibodies would help persuade them to start treatment before TSH reaches 10
Starting levothyroxine - flow chart

Low vitamin levels need regular retesting and maintain at GOOD levels
Free T4 (fT4) 13.7 pmol/L (12.6 - 21)
Ft4 only 13.1% through range
Graph showing median TSH in healthy population is 1-1.5
