TFT Blood results with raised LH & FSH

Hello,

I’m looking for some opinions on my latest test results from the knowledgeable community on here.

The results haven’t got any ranges listed with them, but my main question is in relation to the LH & FSH. I have looked up ranges and what I’ve found is LH is (14.2-52.3) my result is 82.8 and FSH range is (25.8-134.8) my result is 151.7. Could this be because I’m menopausal?

Im still at a loss as to what’s happening with my thyroid/pituitary. Symptoms are still the same. I’m having another pituitary MRI in November and then endo follow-up in December.

Thank you.

Yes, high FSH and LH are menopause related as you run out of eggs to release, have you not noticed any improvement now you are tackling your low folate, Vit D and ferritin?

Perhaps time to return to your GP and request another trial on levothyroxine as symptoms persist

Hi, no improvement in my symptoms as yet, actually, hip pain radiating into muscle cramps in my thighs is getting worse, comes on within 10 minutes of walking.

My GP won’t prescribe Levo as I’m under the endo, and they won’t prescribe because I’m within range😬.

Thank for the reply.

11.3 seems very low for fT4, do you know what range they are using?

I would suggest the hip pain etc could also be tied in with your oestrogen levels dropping after a month without HRT?

I’m assuming this level, as it was done at the same hospital, this was my results from May this year. The top one is my TSH.

Not the clearest is it but I'm reading...

Free T4 (fT4) 10.12 pmol/L (10 - 20) 1.2%

Which is desperately LOW... so your Endo is clueless!! Have you asked him how much lower it needs to be to receive help?

Just pulled up your fT3 results you posted 2 months ago...

Free T4 (fT4) 10.12 pmol/L (10 - 20) 1.2%

Free T3 (fT3) 4.8 pmol/L (3.5 - 6.5) 43.3%

So this shows classic failing thyroid where fT3 is above fT4 as your body desperately makes as much fT3 to keep you functioning

Thank you! Oh how I wish my endo would respond as you have.

I just keep getting told I’m in normal range.

Here is my letter from last week😩

How infuriating, so you have a thyroid eye condition but not a thyroid issue??

Is it worth asking for a second opinion and point out all the other hypothyroid symptoms that you have?

Lovely that they are scanning your pituitary but is that going to make them act on your low thyroid hormone levels or just fob you off for longer?

Hi, could I ask how you work out the % through the range? Thanks

🤗 a gift from a forum member

By having them as a percentage it makes it easier to compare results from labs that use different ranges

There are two calculators - shown in my pinned post:

Some may prefer one, some the other!

The one you linked to is from forum member Decant. The other one is from a forum husband. :-)

What a brilliant calculator, I’ve been inputting all the results I have (been on my NHS app and have last 10 years of TSH & T4)

The highest my T4 has ever been is 12.4 and the lowest was 8. At 8, my TSH was 0.08.

My current T3/T4 ratio is 2.3, could I ask please what is classed as a good number, I know it’s very individual as to what is optimal but with the help of this information I am going to take this along to my appt in December to see if I can force the issue and get myself on levothyroxine 🤞

Really appreciate all the advice and support given here, thank you.

Reference intervals (ranges) vary by lab. The ones you have found might be close enough but it can be important not to use ranges found on the internet - even in the same country, or county!

You really should use the ranges for the specific lab which performed the assays. (It's not clear whether you looked them up from the specific lab - in which case they would be fine. Or any other lab you found.)

Yes, going off your high FSH and LH you are now post menopause. I take it you are not on any hrt otherwise you wouldn't see these results.

Hi, I stopped taking HRT about a month ago, in an effort to try to get to the bottom of my symptoms, and I haven’t noticed any change of symptoms in not using it. Thanks for the reply.
