Diagnosed with P.Partum thyroiditis and been struggling dor 6 weeks. 3 days in on 20mg of carbimazole. I read a really good article before about split dosing carbimazole but I got scared to do it I'm not a fan of taking tablets anyway so thought I'd stick tp what the Dr told me.
But this evening I feel like I have spiked my symptoms are back but feel 10x worse dry mouth, anxiety through the roof and I mean off the scale, heart racing no appetite. Is this because the meds have stopped aorking because of their half life so now my thyroid is working overtime producing more thyroxine than it needs to
Honestly this last y weeks have been yhe hardest in my life. Feel like I'm having a breakdown

Just checking.,,, did you have the correct antibody tests to confirm Graves? I ask only because I was initially mis diagnosed as Graves, largely due to hyper like symptoms (palpitations, tremor, weight loss etc) plus TED (more often linked to Graves).
My GP initially diagnosed me with ‘ health anxiety’, suggested I saw a psychotherapist & offered me anti depressants. Joining this forum helped me realise that my symptoms were related to having a thyroid condition and key vitamins (folate, ferritin, B12 and vit D) not being optimal.
The psychotherapist encouraged me to take up mindfulness, which I still find helpful. I followed guided meditations by Danny Penman/ Mark Williams (Mindfulness in a Frantic World). Mark Williams also has an app with short guided meditations, which is great if you need reminders to practice daily. I was also encouraged to use a ‘guided journal’ to practice positive thinking. CBT isn’t for everyone, but I’ve found it helpful for dealing with anxiety related to thyroid issues.
I try to limit sugar and avoid caffeine in an afternoon, as this can make my anxiety worse. I eat an anti inflammatory diet, avoid gluten & I supplement with turmeric, omega 3 & magnesium.
Hi Buddy, I'm still waiting on an appointment with endocrinology which I'm guessing they will confirm if the high antibodies are related to graves or hashimotos?? I'm really confused by this aspect of it. My thyroid issues have been induced by pregnancy and I belive because I've had 3 pregnancies within 4 yrs and I'm age 35-40 bracket for all 3 I've read this can cause thyroid issues but as I say I'm worried as to what the high levels of TPO antibodies suggest
I did do a split dose today and just took my 10mg for the evening with half a propananol - about 6pm I did start ti notice I was getting really symptomatic again, anxiety spike heart rate raised, dry mouth overheating.
I've had another appointment with my gp today and said give the carbimazole a chance to work. 4 -6wks to notice any significant difference.
I've started taking Vit D, B12, Magnesium and Zinc supplements daily. I need to get Folate and Ferritin. I've also cut Gluten but tbh I have zero appetite atm. Hoping this will return soon as I've lost a stone since having baby 12 weeks ago and I can't afford to loose anymore.
I've bought a journal today and am going to start that this evening. I'm a huge fan of mindfulness but find it hard to sit and practice but I'm definitely going to take up that again and yoga. Thank you for the recommendation i will definitely have a look at his meditations and app,
I started HIT workouts last week and I read probably not the best form of excercise when you heart rate is already elevated hahaha 😅
I'm wary about replying because I have no personal experience. Everything I know is from reading - both on the forum and elsewhere.
However, it is worse for me not to reply!
I suspect that you could be right about the half-life meaning it has, effectively, run out - until your next dose. At the same time, I do understand why you are reluctant to go against what your doctor has prescribed.
Is there any possibility of you discussing the issues with your doctor?
