I'm on 150mcg thyroxine and have had my blood pressure checked at 140/77. I already do all the healthy things to avoid high bp like exercise, healthy eating, non smoker, hardly drink alcohol. Can this be thyroid related? What can I do to change things? I'm v worried. Nurse just said "it's a bit high" but seems far too high to me.

High blood pressure
Hi Flowers, you could listen to John Bergman on you tube. He really defends blood pressure and explains why. Your adrenals and vagus nerve are involved, it's very interesting. He has so many videos it will be easy to find.
Hi flowers. Try not to worry that will make it worse! Could it be a little raised because it was in a clinical setting, very common for it to rise a bit in GP surgery, if it concerns you you can but a home one,get it collated at the surgery and take BP when in a more normal environment.it depend also on your age if over 60 that would quite likely be reasonable reading, but if you concerned best to speak with your GP next time you see him/her.linked to thyroid, some say yes some say no. Mine has risen since diagnosed and taking Levi but maybe it would have done anyway.
Flowers,
Have you stopped the T3 meds ? ? ... It took my poor T3 starved body about a year to really settle into my new T4/T3 med regime and BP did finally drop.
As Heloise states the adrenals are massively involved and all hormones have to find their place and rebalance.
I had to stop the T3. I just couldn't tolerate even a tiny amount. I did lose a little weight but didn't feel good at all. I stopped taking it in June. I'll have a read about adrenals and ask gp too.
Flowers,
The medical profession does not recognise high//low cortisol as a serious problem unless it can be diagnosed as "Cushings" or "Addisons" disease.
Anxiety and stress (caused by possible low thyroid function) causes poor adrenal function, whether it is physical, emotional, psychological, environmental or illness.
Often the things we tolerate the least are the things that our poor bodies crave the most.
Also a low iron result can produce an intolerence of T3. To take stock of "things" you could get a T3 blood test level & post results complete with ranges (numbers in brackets) for members to comment.
I did have low iron when is it as taking the T3 so might try again after my blood test. Thank you for the insight
Dosing on T4 for many years and probably not being the best of converters and being anemic when adding the lowest dose of T3 I had adrenal pain . T3 even in small amounts will unmask adrenal insufficiency . Adding Vit"C" and B-5 adding iron with low dose of DHEA helped me tolerate T3 in low doses divided 2/3 x day .
That sounds like me.
What is adrenal pain?
Adrenals sit right on top of each side of your kidneys . some might call it lower back pain . Trust me it's not very comfortable . But when I did have the adrenal discomfort I would take a small amount about 1/4 tsp. of Celtic Sea Salt on top of my tongue and let it melt and with a very short time my adrenal discomfort eased and I felt more energetic and my mood lifted . Adrenal insufficiency can be very debilitating . Sleep is very healing for adrenals . Journaling my symptoms helped me very much . Pulse B/P temperature in the morning prior to getting out of bed etc. Thyroids and adrenals work in unison . When thyroid meds are not optimal adrenals pick up the slack . When adrenals have to pick up the slack to often it will cause adrenal fatigue . I had high blood pressure palpitations and eventually pain in my adrenals . I guess my adrenals where sending me messages and I was just not getting them . Neither my Dr's . who knew or know so very little if anything about adrenals . It was a big awakening for me for sure . Omitting sugar will make your adrenals very happy too .
