hi there - I had radioactive iodine to treat Graves over 5 years ago. At that time I would regularly experience tightness in my neck with mild pain ie thyroiditis. I haven’t had any issues in years but now I’m experiencing that tightness sensation again which doesn’t make sense as there shouldn’t be any live thyroid tissue there. I’m getting worried - it’s been on and off for 2 weeks. I’m 46 year old female. Thanks in advance for any replies - anyone ease experienced this??

Hello PurpleScrubs and welcome to the forum :
Yes, in theory you are right and by 5 years your thyroid should have been thoroughly burnt through by the Radioactive Iodine.
I have read that the dose of RAI not as exacting as one might think - and also of thyroids being able to regenerate - has a scan or ultra sound been suggested by your doctor ?
I'm presuming you are now taking some form of thyroid hormone replacement - maybe your dose needs adjusting - we can advise if you care to share any thyroid hormone blood test results and ranges there :
RAI amongst other things, can also trash core strength vitamins and minerals and these need to be maintained at optimal levels for any thyroid hormone replacement to work well -
do you have any readings there for ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D as we can advise where these need to maintained for optimal absorption and conversion of any thyroid hormone replacement option.
Hi PurpleScrubs
I too had RAI many years ago.
Went on NDT in the states and had dose worked out. Moved to Portugal 3 years ago and am now on Levo (only med available to treat Hypo☹️) Has been an ongoing process to get dosing correct and still feel ok. Make sure your vitamins are optimal and keep track of your blood pressure as sometimes those feelings can be caused by blood pressure issues.
An ultrasound of your thyroid as suggested could put that issue to rest.
Good luck in your journey, never a dull moment 😁
