I’ve had an under active thyroid for a few years, I’m currently taking 100mg thyroxin. I recently had my annual blood test and the results showed that my serum TSH result came back as ‘out of range’ which is 0.23 mIU/L. This is a 1.3 decrease since last year. Does this mean I might be taking too much thyroxin?
Also, blood test results came back that my white blood cell count is low (out of range) as well as neutrophils. I don’t know if this could be related.
I’m 30, in pretty good health, don’t smoke or drink and not overweight. I do feel tired all the time and get anxiety/depression. I also seem to have a poor immune system as I constantly get HPV and weird skin issues on my hands. I had a diagnosis of anorexia in my teens but all recovered now. My dad has Addison’s disease, I don’t know if that’s relevant. I struggle to ever get doctors appointments and the next one they can offer me to discuss the results is in 6 weeks time so just thought I’d post here in case anyone has any thoughts or knowledge. Feeling very in the dark and frustrated.
Help!

Ok. Then it sounds like you need some more tests. Your Dad’s Addison Disease might be relevant but it’s too soon to say.
Where in the world are you? I see you’re new to the forum? 🙂
You might actually be on too little levothyroxine rather than too much. Ideally your doctor should test at least FT4 and preferably FT3 before reducing your dosage. Given your symptoms under medication is possibly more likely.
Do you have ferritin, Vit B12, folate and Vit D tested?
Okay thank you that's helpful. I can try to get more tests. that's interesting about it possibly being an indication of too little thyroxin. I am very confused about the low WBC and neutrophils too. I am based in Sussex in the south of England.
For good conversion of Ft4 (levothyroxine) to Ft3 (active hormone) we must maintain GOOD vitamin levels
Good vitamin levels
Vitamin D at least over 80nmol
Serum B12 over 500
Folate towards top of range, typically either 20 or 60 depending on range
Ferritin at least approximately 70
What vitamin supplements are you taking
Also VERY important to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together
What is reason for your hypothyroidism
Presumably Autoimmune?
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
with a low out of range TSH that normally indicates too much thyroxine. Maybe a very slight decrease would be beneficial. If my levels get too high and TSH too low my white blood count also gets abnormally low. I’ve had abnormally low neutraphil too at same time. Those being abnormally low will not help with staving off infections.
