I have had Primary hyperparathyroidism for couple of years Dexa scan xrays and seen consultant. Waiting for appt for surgeon

My comment will bring your post back up the news feed, so hopefully others will see it and respond.

The parathyroid are (4 tiny glands) located very close to thyroid - but have a separate function to thyroid. A few members have parathyroid damage as a consequence of thyroid surgery.

When testing PTH it must be done on a site with lab facilities as sample has to be processed quickly.

Usually, calcium, PTH, vitamin D (possibly phosphate / & other bone profile) should be tested together.

Low vitamin D can also be an issue.

Good luck when you have your surgery. I had pth op several years ago, it was a challenge for the surgeon but seems to have cured the problem.
