Ultrasound scan results, help please, Dr's appointment today.

Hello lovely people,

Further to my previous post I wrote about my sister being diagnosed with thyroid cancer, because of that the doctor agreed to refer me to have an ultrasound scan, my sister is having her thyroid removed later this month.

My ultrasound was carried out on Sunday 11th August, the report landed with my GP on Monday, I already had a follow-up appointment booked for Wednesday (today) to discuss my general thyroid health and to request a private referral letter so I can have a chance of getting an appointment on either of the pathways.

The scan results now take precedence as there is obviously something of concern been identified.

I have been referred as urgent to ENT for a biopsy, please can anyone offer me any advice on what to discuss at my appointment today as I'm at a complete loss because of the result.

It's completely thrown me as I was expecting the results to confirm I had Hashimoto's due to having high antibodies.

Should I also still request a private referral?

Or should I hold off until I've had the biopsy?

Do you think this is why T3 levels are low due to something else going on?

My NHS referral waiting list position as of Monday 12th August is:

They are contacting patients who were referred Sept 23, I was referred Dec 23 so I'm getting nearer to being invited.

Thank you x

I have just had a biopsy on my thyroid and I was U3 ..which means they are not sure. U4 is suspicious and U5 suspected cancerous so a U2 is fine. ....not sure about the other definistions so hopefully this isn't as bad as you feared x

Hello Apodemus,

Thank you for your reply, ironically after being up most of the night researching I happened to find what the classifications meant about 15 minutes ago.

Definitely a case of can't see the wood for the trees!

I'm sorry to hear you are on the same journey, I hope you are ok and your test results are favourable and your thyroid condition is managed well.

Thank you for the reassurance and please let me know how you get on x

Thank you. My biopsy was ok benign. But they did the fine needle biopsy just on case as mine was a U3 but my Uncle had thyroid cancer. The biopsy is not painful as such more like a nip. Hope it all goes well for you x

I'm so pleased for you that is positive news 😁

Do you mind me asking if they are providing treatment post biopsy or is it a wait and see how things develop scenario? x

Hi Apodemus,

Thanks for the reply and sharing your journey.

I had a positive appointment with my doctor this afternoon, we agreed to wait for the biopsy results before moving forward with a private endo referral so all the information the endo requires is gathered.

Fingers crossed I have a positive outcome and my nodules are benign.

Thanks once again for replying x

Generally speaking, nodules are quite common in Hashimoto's and most of them are benign. You might be interested in Jennifer Holkem's Save Your Thyroid podcasts on YouTube in relation to possible nodule (and some cancer) treatments.
