US scan results

Morning all. I have had my scan results back and my GP hasn’t explained anything about my results. Didn’t ask me any questions. Just review repeat scan in 6 months. I questioned calcification, he said small and couldn’t explain anything. Hasn’t offered any blood tests recent TSH is 1.5 and taking 75mcg Levo.

diagnosed hypothyroidism hashimoto 2016 by a scan. Hyper vascular multi nodular.

Off memory the nodules were smaller in 2016.

This is new scan results. 4/7/24

There is 14mm slightly hypochoic nodule seen in the left thyroid lobe, which possibly may be collection of 2-3 nodules. Mild internal vascularity was demonstrated on colour doppler assessment. Small focus of calcification is also seen within the nodule. Ultrasound appearnaces are indeterminate (U3).

There is also a 13mm benign appearing right lobe nodule. (U2).

Thyroid otherwise is normal in size and texture.

Normal ultrasound appearance of the major salivary glands.

No enlarged or concerning lymph node seen in the neck.

Impression:

(U3) indeterminate appearing left thyroid lobe nodule.

As per the guidelines from QEH, FNAs are not done for the lesions less than 25 mm, recommended follow-up ultrasound in 6- 12 months.

So NHS want me to just wait to see if any changes if my nodules are suspicious?

Any advice please

Sorry you've not had any replies yet.

My comment will bring your post back up the news feed, so hopefully others will see it and respond.

Nodules are very common, even in those without thyroid dysfunction.

hypochoic means lower echos, the nodule is denser than rest of thyroid that’s expected with nodules. Vascularity means there’s blood flow.

“Thyroid otherwise is normal in size and texture” which is unusual because if you have hypo / autoimmune you usually see smaller / swollen or pattern damage to thyroid.

Scans look for potential physical issues, ie - would this need biopsy / surgery? It doesn’t look a function which is determined by blood test.
