B12 Advice please

Hi I just wanted to know if anyone could advise or might have a similar problem I also have hypothyroidism and Hashimotos. I have all the systems of B12 deficiency; fatigue, weight loss, balance problems , brain fog, memory, numb toes, tingling sensation in my legs, swollen ankles especially my left one and vision problems with my right eye drooping.

I used to have B12 injections over ten years ago with Dr Chandy but unfortunately I couldn’t keep injecting myself. The B12 blood test on the NHS has come back high at 1247ng/l but I don’t feel it’s being transported where it needs to go as I’m not taking any supplements. So I’ve had to pay privately for the MMA and Homocysteine tests MMA is 16.7 (>32) and homocysteine is 11.24 which I’ve now been told due to them being in the range they won’t give me the injections.

Has anyone else had this problem the feeling that I know how to be fixed but with the results showing so high no one willing to help I feel there is some form of blockage.

Should I try and do the B12 injections again myself or does anyone know who to suggest?

Thank you

Best wishes

I think you should take your question over to the Pernicious Anemia forum. They are better equiped to reply than most of us:

Your Homocysteine would be better in single figures - around 5/6. Taking a GOOD B Complex could resolve this.

When was your last B12 injection ? The result could well remain high for sometime.

Information about purchasing B12 is available on the PAS Forum.

Also many of your symptoms could be linked to an under-treated thyroid... do you have recent results with ranges ? What is your current T4 dose ?....

Are you sure your symptoms are related to b12 deficiency as a lot but not all of what you describe sounds like thyroid levels not being optimal. Do you have your latest thyroid test results of TSH, t4 and t3.

I’ve used this to show my doctor. It’s also helpful for ourselves to keep track of symptoms and changes.

Unfortunately, I think once doctors have decided, they seem to be set in their minds. Ask for a different doctor or a referral? Ask what do they think is causing your symptoms if not B12 deficiency.
