Private Consultant in London

Hello

Thank you for this wonderful forum.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in my early 30s and have been "managed" with levo by my GP.

It was never that satisfactory but I made do -- busy life, children, work etc

I have recently moved to London, and have finally been able to sign up and meet a GP -- consultation lasted 5 mins -- he told me my TSH is fine and there is no need to do anything different.

I feel tired all the time, when I increase my levo I get palpitations.

I really want to see a Consultant privately but it is bewildering to find someone (and my GP is not going to help).

I understand that the forum can't post recommendations directly, but where could I find someone who is interested in the disease, open to new treatment paradigms and would treat me as a person and look at the impact of Hashimoto's on my "whole body health" rather than just an organ in my neck and measuring TSH ?

many thanks for any help as I am so exasperated

When someone asks for information about a specific doctor, or practice, or for suggestions of a good practitioner, that post will be closed to replies to ensure that our guidelines are not broken. The poster has not done anything wrong by asking!

For this reason, it is best to ask for information in a new and separate post so that turning off replying doesn’t terminate other discussions.

If you wish to help the person, send them a Private Message (also called Chat) with your information. (The poster might already have asked for Private Messages.)

Guideline 30 applies:

30. Do not post information about specific endocrinologists or doctors on the main board without their permission as this may result in unwanted attention from certain areas of the medical profession. If you wish to discuss a particular endocrinologist or doctor, you may mention his/her name and location, providing that you ask for comments by private message only.

BEFORE considering booking any consultation essential to get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing

Come back with new post once you get results

Also if not on gluten free diet get coeliac blood test BEFORE trialing GF

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with Hashimoto’s

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Post all about what time of day to test
