Vit D again

The prescription for Vit D has come through at last after a week, and the GP has given me Stexerol-D3 1000 capsules with the instruction to take 4 a day.

I looked at the very handy Vit D calculator suggested on here and is says 10,000 a day to get to a level in 3 months or 25000 to do a loading dose.

So me and my brain fired up and think this means I need to take 10 capsules a day or 25 a day if I want to get anywhere fast. Am I right? Is this safe?

I had a calving in the night and the little grey cells are only on half power today, so forgive me if I have made a basic error somewhere. Thanks as always you life savers out there.

Not sure how your stomach will cope with that (I'll go and have a look at what else is in those tablets) a sublingual might be a kinder route but yes your math is correct, I've done the loading option without issue and it was effective but it was sublingual

I'd say 4000iu is more of a maintenance dose

Hmmm... quite a lot of excipients including titanium dioxide in both 1000 and the 25,000 version but that has mannitol too😕 and neither contain K2?

I use this... amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09...

are you already taking magnesium?

The best way for our bodies to receive vitamin D3 is through sunshine on our skin. In the UK we only receive enough sunshine to benefit in the summer months, in the winter we need to take supplements (or take a sunny winter holiday). Even in the summer in the UK we need to expose enough of our bodies, arms and legs say, to feel the effects of the sun. Those who stay covered up for religious reasons or who have darker skin are therefore often deficient in vitamin D3. It is important to remember that the wavelength that triggers the formation of D3 is the same wavelength that burns the skin so care must be taken to have enough sunshine on the skin but not enough to burn. Research seems to show that this vitamin D3 process in the skin continues into old age: mdpi.com/2072-6643/16/8/1147

I have a lot of areas of vitiligo on my arms and face, so have to be careful, but I work outside all the time. The areas of vitiligo have no melanin so no protection from the sun. I have never tanned, came back from the south of France still lily white!

I have been using the Vit D spray with K2, which is 3000, so will just top it up with 7 pills a day, I think that is right? Thanks for checking my maths TiggerMe - I nearly had to open a spreadsheet!

If I stuck to the what the GP has prescribed, I have worked it out it would take over a year to get anywhere!

Yep they don't intend for you to feel well anytime soon do they

I'd suggest adding a 4th squirt as this would bring the K2 up to 100ug which should cover 5000-10,000ug of D3🤗

I'm out and about a good few hours a day and tend not to put sunscreen on my legs (not sure what my twisted logic is there 🤷‍♀️) but I still need to supplement with 4000iu in the summer and 5000iu in the winter... safer than overdoing the sun

It took me a whole year to raise my levels some years ago plus the K2 of course.

My extremely low levels of Vit D caused me to have calcium stones in my gallbladder when it was removed it was chock full of beige mini rugby balls of calcium not the usual Cholesterol.

I buy my own vit D capsules now and take 4000 x two or three times a week. with Vit K2
