Have had to stop!!

FoxyTed profile image
24 Replies

Hi everyone following on from my previous post after 5 days I have had to stop the Thybon T3, headaches were all day everyday and my mood horrid just unbearable! Could not go on like that. I even split 5mg into 2.5 twice daily

I would love your thoughts/advice please,

Do I stay on my 50mg levo for next 2 weeks? At that stage I will see T doc again.

Could I please have it explained to me why my T3 dropped a bit when T4 went up? after taking 50mg T4 ONLY at that stage. I thought if T4 goes up then it’s more likely to push the T3 up?

Is it possible if I increase T4 that my T3 will go up?

Really appreciate your help as always

Levothyroxine doesn’t “top up” failing thyroid, it replaces it

Standard STARTER dose is 50mcg

Taking levothyroxine, your own thyroid starts to not work so hard …..and at starter dose it’s common for Ft3 and Ft4 to reduce

You need next dose increase in levothyroxine to 75mcg

Retest again in another 6-8 weeks

Which brand is the 50mcg

Approximately how much do you weigh in kilo

Typically we increase dose levothyroxine SLOWLY upwards in 25mcg steps until on roughly 1.6mcg levo per kilo of your weight per day

Unless extremely petite, that’s likely to be at least 100mcg levothyroxine per day

Adding T3 too soon is usually a recipe for disaster.

You’re so right Slow, disaster and I’m SO sensitive to hormonal changes though T4 was agreeing with me, iv had a rough ride this few days, awfully low mood, headache all day everyday😫. Iv worked out YES about 100mcg thank you🌺

SlowG it’s Mercury T4

Ok

Mercury make 25mcg, 50mcg and 100mcg tablets

Get 25mcg prescribed alongside 50mcg

Tk you Slow, I will have to wait now for 2 weeks? Is that right after stopping the T3? I was only on it for 5 days. Tk u!

Taking almost any dose of T3 will usually rapidly and significantly reduce TSH …..in effect turning your own thyroid output right down or off

It may take several weeks for TSH to recover after stopping T3

Retest TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 at 6-8 weeks after stopping

Tk you Slow I’ll do that

Could I please have it explained to me why my T3 dropped a bit when T4 went up?

Could be that your FT4 went up too far and started converting to more rT3 than T3. Depends what your FT4 level was. But if that was the case, if you drop your levo your FT3 should, eventually, go up again.

Hi GG, Tks for reply, my T4 went up to 16 from 11 following 50mg for 2-3 months, I did not have a reaction until I took T3 last week.

OK, well, I have no idea, then. Sorry.

I couldn’t tolerate T3 either

Me neither. Eventually Levo alone did the trick. Just had to give it time. It takes a long time for hormonal change to settle I found.

Hi Josephine, thanks and by your post, am I right in thinking you tried T3 early on in your journey?

FoxyTed in reply toraine-wager

Hi Raine, sorry to hear you had trouble re T3 also, but I’m glad it’s not just me if you know what I mean. Can I ask what path you took then? I had only been on T4 50mg for 2-3 months and I did find it helping as I was in bad shape before. This is all a journey and we are unique. Tk you

In your recent post/thread it was mentioned that optimal levels of B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD are needed ( DippyDame ) for good conversion. Couldn't see your response....

When I first joined in 2011 - and thereafter - it was often suggested not to introduce T3 until all levels were good.

Hi Marz, yes all levels good. I’m very sensitive to hormonal changes, I tried but the headache was all day everyday and so down/emotional. Didn’t take it today and I’m ok and I can function at least

I think you went for T3 a bit early but, and it’s a big but, I couldn’t tolerate Thybon T3 either. Don’t judge all T3 by your experience with Thybon should you need T3 in the future. I now have mine compounded by Roseway using very minimal excipients.

Ginger not through choice re T3, my T doctors thinking was more T4 would go into reverse. Thats good to know thank you for sharing as I’m was concerned what if I need to introduce T3 in future. Did you have someone guide you re compounded ? Tks

Sorry to hear about your headaches. I know all about that, I had a severe headache for 2 1/2 months due to changes in a medication batch. Thought I was going mad with the pain. Fortunately it subsided, but still get one in once in a while, but not so severe, I think it is hormonal related. I hope you can get yours sorted ASAP. All the best!! 😊

Thanks mindful that’s kind of you to reply. Sorry to hear you suffered it’s not easy! I usually have one headache per day, and I know it’s fluctuation I am well post meno and I do suspect thyroid imbalance someway. When I tried the small bit of T3 last week I had headache all day & I felt so awful in my mood! Anyway glad you got mostly rid of yours and I live in hope😁
