Be careful.
What we have seen time after time is this:
Iron deficiency is identified.
Supplementation started (whether prescribed or self-sourced).
Iron deficiency is resolved (by reference to blood test results).
Supplementation stopped.
After some time, iron deficiency identified again...
Go back to beginning and repeated every few months, or year or so.
Basically, if your iron levels drop to deficiency, you need to understand why. There are many possibilities - such as not having sufficient iron in your diet, or blood loss.
If you supplement for a while, then stop, and have NOT addressed the cause(s), you are very likely to become iron deficient again.
However, you might find that instead of a substantial dose of iron supplement, you can cut down to a smaller dose that is just enough to keep your levels good.
