Millet porridge

Im trying to find a porridge that agrees with my tummy. Even gluten free porridge is a no go. Ive made millet porridge, pre soaked overnight and cooked in coconut milk, with a bit of water, coconut and sultanas added. This appears to be ok, but have recently read that millet affects the thyroid gland from producing hormone. Is this correct?Any advice most welcome 🌸🌸🌸🌸

I think you would need to have an awful lot of millet for it to have any negative effects. As you’ve found a breakfast that is healthy, tolerable and enjoyable, then I would still have it!

If there is a small risk that millet effects the absorption of thyroid medication, perhaps leave a gap between taking your medication and eating the porridge.

Just looked at that page you linked to. Sigh. Who writes these things? Goitrogens don't 'act like an antithyroid drug', the stop the thyroid absorbing iodine, which is why the thyroid swells, forming a goitre, in an effort to absorb more iodine. Hence the name: goitrogen.

You might like to try buckwheat too. I struggle with oat porridge as well.

Buckwheat gets my vote. Simple. Helmsley sisters recipe. Keeps me ‘regular’ too.
