Hi, I recently recieved from the Chemist, white 5mg carbimazole with F1 on them. Different from the usual Pink carbimazole with a C on them. I really didn't feel any bad side effects off the pink ones, but when I started taking the white ones with F1 on them I felt some what nauseous and and a slightly uncomfortable Psychologically. I have had similar feeling from the stronger carbimazole earlier on in the treatment when my dose needed reducing. Anyone else had similar problem? Thanks for any info or suggestions.

1 brand made me itchy. Most side affect do not last long & can be managed.

A manufacturers patient information leaflet (PIL) should be dispensed with every prescription.

What mg are the carbimazole pills? carbimazole I’ve had usually have c on one side or eg c10. & often have break line 1 side. F1 doesn’t spring to mind.

Thanks. They are 5mg I have been on 5mg for four months. The pink ones were15mg but were issued just after seeing the Endocronologist, who reduced my dose from 15mg to 5mg but the chemist issued the usual15mg which I cut into three to get the 5mg.

Someone is playing dumb. And that is VERY questionable all round.

15mg tablets are VERY expensive;

Whereas 5mg tablets can be as low as £1.81:

Most especially ridiculous if you are then having to cut them!

5mg tablets could both save a fortune and make it easier for you.

Thanks helvella. It was just a one off mistake as it was before the change in dose was registered from my endocronologist. My GP did say "you should have phoned me" But I was fine with cutting them into three. Wow! the cost difference is crazy.

You should receive a Patient Information Leaflet with each prescription dispensed.

This link finds all carbimazole products allowed in the UK. Work through to find out what you have got and see if there is any reason (e.g. something you are sensitive to) included in the excipients:

No need to delete post. Someone may have the same or similar query & this may help them to answer it too, or give them the confidence to start their own post.

Most importantly it might offer a line of thought someone hadn’t considered to question. 😀

Thank you. Yes they are the same. No brand name in bottle with an unusual red cap that is not child friendly. But I think they were filled at the chemist. Thank you for helping . Mystery solved. Will give some time to get used to side effects.

If you are getting side effects, I implore you to report them!

Don't just put up and shut up. Shout and wave a flag. Side effects need to be explained, understood, and if it is brand-specific, replaced by a suitable alternative.
